Sherwood finds better balance as Spurs turn on style.

Posted on February 13, 2014 by Random Spurs Supporter

Tim Sherwood made three changes to the team that faced Everton although two were apparently enforced by injury to Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen, nevertheless the changes made all seemed to work well,  the extra pace of Younes Kaboul alongside Jan Vertonghen, switching Aaron Lennon to the left to give extra support to Kyle Naughton who was brought into the side in place of  Rose, most encouraging of all was the introduction of Etienne Capoue who really made a point with an exceptional contribution.

Adebayor worked hard as always and added two more goals to his total compliments of Tim Krul who spilled shots for the first three goals, Paulinho Dembele, Bentaleb and Lennon all got forward and threatened as often as possible and all had decent efforts on goal. Though this was a comprehensive victory that by the end could have been by an even greater margin the team were still beholding to Lloris late on as he produced two world class saves to prevent Newcastle from getting back into the game.

Nacer Chadli got the chance to stretch his legs and show what he could do and did just that by scoring the goal of the game and a contender for goal of the season, a screamer from wide left into the top right hand corner that could only be admired by all who witnessed it.

A good strong performance, the team was almost always in control of proceedings, even Bentaleb was able to give a more exciting, attacking role relieved of some responsibility because of the introduction of Capoue.

Finally credit is due to Sherwood himself for making changes and reacting to the needs of the team from game to game, from being fixated on a system that relied upon just two central midfielders he today sent out no less than four of them and made it work, Lennon was a constant threat down the left and linked up well with Adebayor, though is it me or has he lost a yard of pace? Townsend and Chadli came on and were both threatening and we were all praying for a chance to fall for Soldado to get him up and running.

All in all a very encouraging performance and one that will concentrate the minds of Liverpool and Arsenal who were both clear of us a short while ago and are both now within striking distance. All the doom and gloom surrounding Tottenham for most of this season and yet somehow they are an impressive five points better off than this time last season with plenty of room for improvement left in the squad yet.

Great win. But we cannot rest on our laurels. I was really impressed with Bentaleb. It’s only one game, but I have to change my opinion about him. Sherwood must be really proud of his contribution and performance tonight.

What can I say about Lloris? Two worldys. From now on he must be known as ‘Hugo the cat’. I’ve never seen a keeper flip around like that in mid air. Amazing save!

Great goals from Ade. Can anyone explain his goal celebration? I was ashamed that I could not explain it to my lovely wife, when she asked – I’ve already boasted that I know most things about our team! Bloody big head!

I congratulate our manager for the selection, injuries or not. It was a great win. Shame that Reither made that silly challenge that gave the Scousers the three points instead of one.

the inclusion of Capoue released the youngster and he took his game to a new level. expecting to see capoue and sandro paired together in the really big away games with three of bentaleb, Dembele, Paulinho and Eriksen ahead of them.
The best performance of the season bar none so far, that ferrari is moving up the gears at the moment.

encouraging and for the first time have begun to warm to Sherwood a little. An excellent exciting performance.
