Should Tottenham really fear Chelsea and United?

Posted on August 27, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

Having watched two of the favourites for the title battle their way to a goalless draw last night got me thinking that Tottenham really might have a shot at the title. Was there really so much difference between two of the favourites and this new Tottenham side.

Chelsea, with so many creative players and with Willian set to join later this week, created very little, they started with two of their specialist strikers on the bench and the third elsewhere, instead Mourinho chose one of his new signings to spearhead his attack and another of his attacking midfielders at that. Somehow Chelsea have spent the transfer window so far creating an unbalanced squad and have spent more than Tottenham doing it, clearly Mourinho does not trust or rate any of his forwards and has destabilised them totally by openly admitting that he is chasing Rooney to be his first choice, by choosing Schurrie yesterday he really has shown his contempt for Torres, Lukaku and Ba. He still has much to do in this transfer window, including clearing the decks of a few stars, to complete his squad and failure to secure Rooney could cost him.

I have to say that United looked the better bet based upon last nights performance, surprisingly though they do not possess the strength in depth expected of a United squad, they possess very few players of real creative brilliance as Chelsea seem set on buying them all. As much as United could do with a player like Juan Mata who might figure in a player exchange deal with Chelsea for Rooney, the loss of Rooney could prove catastrophic,  a big loss to them and possibly helping Chelsea much more than themselves in the long term.

As I see it both have problems as things stand and Tottenham might just be putting themselves into a position to take advantage. With City also suffering a shock defeat on Sunday and with Tottenham looking strong in most areas of the team and with unfinished business in the transfer market there might never be a better moment.

are for real?! Spurs didt score an goal form open play yet with all your expensve signings..while united looks strong for mourinho’s teams even.. Yet for you to get stuck at arsenal.

Spurs took four points off United last season or have you forgotten, united certainly haven’t brought in better players yet but spurs have. As for chelsea the point is that they are not a balanced squad with no specialist forwards Mourinho trusts he might just be about to create another divided squad, the team was full of his new signings and the old guard. nobody denies spurs might come unstuck at arsenal as they are a top 5 club and on their patch but didn’t see much to worry about from 2 of the favourites last night, it was poor unless you saw something different.
