Soldado set to challenge RVP for the Golden Boot.

Posted on August 11, 2013 by Guest Writer

Last season Robin Van Persie won the Golden Boot for the second consecutive season but was pushed every step of the way by Luis Suarez, who missed  some of the season due to suspension as he will do again having six games still remaining of his ban, a little further behind was Gareth Bale with a remarkable twenty one goals for a player used as only the second striker.

This summer Manchester City, Swansea and Tottenham have each gone out and purchased a new centre forward at great expense, Negredo has gone to City, Bony to Swansea and Soldado to Tottenham, all have quickly found their form and the net for their respective clubs and each of them looks set for a good season.

Last season in La Liga Negredo battled it out with Soldado to become the best of the rest finishing the season with twenty-five and twenty-four goals respectively, each of them beaten only by Messi, Ronaldo and Falcao. from what I have seen so far Negredo and Bony appear more orthodox centre forwards, both powerful in the air and regularly on the end of crosses whereas Soldado is, judging from yesterdays performance, a forward of perpetual motion, quick and aware of everything going on around him, his ability to play off the back of the last man and pick his runs could be perfect in the Tottenham setup.

Van Persie will certainly have his work cut out to finish top once again this season and pick up the Golden Boot for the third consecutive year, at the moment it is difficult to imagine that United will again be the strongest team in the Premier League, City and Chelsea have both strengthened while United have lost Sir Alex and, with his retirement, the air of invincibility, they are even finding it difficult at the moment to attract new players of quality or retain what they have.

Last season AVB led Tottenham to their best ever Premiership points total, he did so based on power, hard work, pace and quality but his focal point of the team, his centre forward lacked the killer instinct in front of goal so he has added Soldado and even more pace, power and strength to his squad, at the moment he is probably pinning his hopes on guile in the hands of Sigurdsson, Holtby and Carroll for when he needs it, unless he has a surprise in store before the window closes, in that particular area clearly Chelsea and City have more to offer, each having some incredibly creative players in their ranks.

This has all the makings of an incredibly exciting season about it and it is unlikely that any particular team will run away with the title again. At least six teams are likely to challenge for a top four position and a couple of the teams always expected to do well might find daunting challenges ahead of them.

Goals will be a vital ingredient this season as always and the team with the most lethal goalscorer in their ranks will probably achieve what they set out to accomplish.

It seems an age since last season ended but it begins all over again in less than a week.

I think soldado will do well but he can’t match the class of van persie

    • Tony says:

he is close but make you right, i do think that united are in for a struggle by their standards though and no chance of scholes making another comeback.

  2. Calarsenal says:

I think united will struggle but especially with everything with Rooney he will be the only striker, just don’t think it’s right to compare one of the top 3 strikers in the world to a really good goals scoring forward like soldado

    • Tony says:

Didn’t say that he was as good but that he will, with a couple of others, push for top goalscorer, Michu, suarez and even Bale who was not the main striker pushed him close last year. It’s not like in spain where 2 teams and 2 players dominate ,this is the EPL and it’s the toughest to play in.

  3. Calarsenal says:

I agree that he will be pushed but I can’t see rvp not winning the golden boot it he is injury free

  4. lol says:

RVP is class apart if he is injury free. Just dont start dreaming. Soldado, if he an produce 20 goals, along side Bale’s 20, we will fill the goal scoring voids by our forwards and Lennon from last year

    • Tony says:

Of course he is a class apart and will continue banging them in but that doesnt.make united a one man team.soldado is also a goal machine with consistent seasons provided he settles quickly.

  5. Calarsenal says:

It never quite works like that though, just because bale got 20 and you signed a player who you would expect to get 20 doesn’t mean you will. Just look at van Persia and Rooney they didn’t both score 30 last year

    • whlspur says:

Every team needs one 20plus goalscorer and provided the team as a whole can total 70 plus then it should make for great season.rare that a team has two 20plus scorers these days.wherever Bale plays I doubt he will score as many this season.

      • Calarsenal says:

I agree, bale is still an incredible player and he is in my top 3 in the world but I can’t see him scoring 20 again but maybe get a lot more assists, I hope he does well again it makes for an exciting prem season

        • Tony says:

If he stays at spurs he will get more assists because Soldado is a class act. bale certainly knows how to take a chance but needs to do it on regular basis like Ronaldo and Messi. Really needed to stay where he is for a season or two more and keep doing what he does, this move just might be wrong for him at the moment but it seems obvious he wants to go.

  6. whlspur says:

Bale is a fantastic player and has been superb for a few seasons, but he has had just one truly exceptional season and needs another at least as good before he can really be elevated to super stardom. just what is his best position or more to the point what does he see as his best? He was excellent on the left but he is not happy with just that. He probably needs spurs just as much as they need him right now as he won’t be the boss at Madrid, that will always be Ronaldo and he will be sacrificed on the field of play to get the best from Ronaldo, and he can forget freekick duty for a while.
