Spurs are ready to go.

Though many will preach caution following yesterdays trouncing of Inter Milan surely it is not unreasonable to be just a little excited about the performance of not only the team but a number of individuals. Harry Kane was quickly out of the blocks and banging in goals, the indifferent form shown during the Euros over the summer quickly forgotten. He showed his versatility by carrying on where he left off as the main striker in the 1st half , in the 2nd half he was equally happy playing as the 2nd striker alongside the new boy  Vincent Janssen.

Janssen seems to have settled quickly and adds something new to the squad, a bruiser who will become a persistent nuisance to any defence as he chases down lost causes, he showed that there is plenty to his game as he linked up well with all the players around him.

Though the results from the Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Milan games differed, performance improved game by game, many of our new generation were given opportunities to show what they could do and almost without exception they came through. Cameron Carter-Vickers featured in every game and showed what he could do against some of the best forwards in the game, he fared well against Torres, Dybala and Icardi and looks to be a real player. Anton Walkes was solid alongside him in the Madrid game and will have learned so much and along with Toby, Jan and Wimmer will probably save the club some money this transfer window as likely backups.

Wanyama showed everybody what he could do, in fact it seems there is a lot more to his game than we have seen in the past, he has been signed to perform on a regular basis and not simply to cover for Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele.

Harry Winks is quickly becoming a fans favourite and improves with every appearance and let’s not forget the mercurial Marcus Edwards, though only 17yrs of age his potential is enormous. Plenty of our other youngsters were given minutes against some of the best players in football and acquitted themselves well.

With many of the mainstays  only yesterday returning to the fray it was clear that the likes of Hugo, Toby, Eric, Delle and each of our 4 fullbacks have not suffered from their summer exertions and all seem ready to step it up another notch along with Harry and Christian.

Over the course of all three games there have been some excellent and encouraging team and individual performances but in the opinion of most of us at JTN nobody has stood out more than Eric Lamela, for so long he has been the butt of ridicule from all quarters, sadly most of it from our own supporters, now, still only 24yrs of age, he is beginning to show just what he can do. Lamela showed us last season that he was prepared to work extremely hard for the good of the team, he began to contribute goals and assists but now seems to have added consistency to his game. either in wide areas and now in a playmaker role Lamela is beginning to look like the real deal.

It seems that one or two others are likely to follow Fazio and Pritchard out of the club with Chadli, N’jie and Bentaleb seemingly the most likely at risk, coming in it seems that the long running N’Koudou saga is likely to end favourably quite soon now. Other additions might include an attacking midfielder but with Pochettino happy to give our own academy products a chance that is no certainty.

There are still many sceptics amongst the Tottenham fan base convinced that the club need to buy and spend big money on finished articles if the club is not to go backwards this coming season, many seem to forget that the entire squad has room for growth as well as likely to improve greatly from the experience gained over the course of last season.

Tottenham under Pochettino  now have a fantastic group of players, a squad that contains team spirit, quality, hunger, pace, togetherness and a willingness to work hard. The club is in safe hands and will once again improve performance, that allied to more depth following shrewd additions will ensure that Tottenham challenge the best once again.
