Spurs lineup for Sunderland.

Posted on December 07, 2013 by Scraggs

Another difficult away fixture against a team fighting against relegation but currently propping up the rest of the league. After a dog fight against Fulham in midweek, a team with a newly appointed coach, it is on to Sunderland who only appointed Gus Poyet a few short weeks ago.

In normal circumstances Tottenham would probably be expected to come away with all three points but this is no normal season, even though Tottenham lie sixth they and their coach are still a team under considerable pressure, unreasonably so in my opinion but nevertheless they are the club on the receiving end of most unwanted media attention.

This will be Tottenhams  fourth fixture in just ten days and they will have had to travel on three occasions starting at Tromso and finishing in Sunderland tomorrow. We already know that Jan Vertonghen will not be available for this one having picked up a knock late on Wednesday. AVB will again shuffle his pack so as to keep it all fresh and protect some from over exposure and the possibility of injury and especially because of the busy recent schedule.

Danny Rose is apparently back in training but not yet ready to make his comeback, also out is Adebayor ( how does he keep picking up imjuries?) and Christian Eriksen, presumably Moussa Dembele is ready to resume in the centre, which will be a huge bonus, but the main dilemma is who will take over at left back in the absence of Rose and now Vertonghen?

AVB has lots of big decisions to make when formulating his team for another important fixture, get it right, earn another three points and things will look so much better and relieve some of the pressure that has built up in recent weeks. Tottenham have scored three outstanding goals in the last two games first from Sandro before Chiriches and Holtby opened their accounts for the club and won the game at Fulham.Much as we all enjoy a great goal I would be happy to take a couple of flukes if it opens the floodgates for Soldado and Paulinho or one or two others.

It’s never easy to second guess AVB when it comes to team selection and it’s nothing like the days of Redknapp when we could all choose the team subject to fitness. Tomorrow he will have to choose a team to battle it out with a dangerous opponent and this is the team that we at JTN believe he will choose to do the job.

  1. Alee says:

    No, please not Naughton. Put Zeki Fryers there, they’re about as good as eachother but at least Fryers has age on his side and can use the opportunity he has from our calamitous absence of players in that position to develop a lot as a player by playing in the PL.

  2. Alee says:

    Lloris;
    Walker, Dawson, Chireches, Fryers;
    Sandro;
    Holtby;
    Lennon, Dembele, Chadli/Townsend
    Soldado

  3. Jeremy says:

    I would like to see if maybe avb would try playing lamela in the no.10 role and keep the midfield partnership of dembele and sandro in the middle. The two of them have a great understanding of each others game and could provide lamela protection to play his game. That would be great for his confidence to get a good game under his belt! Either way, im a huge fan of holtby and after his beautiful goal, surely deserves to be in the starting lineup!

      Ossie said that he would be a revelation inthat role and he gave us a glimpse in the lasy euro game at the lane. With such a strong squad choosing will always be a problem.
