Spurs second striker purchase might take until well into August.

It seems that following the purchase of Paulinho, our third midfield dynamo, and the expected announcement that David Villa will be the first striker through the door, it might then be sometime before the next striker is secured and joins the ranks.

It seems that Tottenham might have set their sights on Roberto Soldado of Valencia as the price for Christian Benteke has risen from something like £18m to nearer £25m, he might well turn out to be a bargain at that price but still represents something of a gamble, whereas Soldado has seen it and done it consistently. The problem Tottenham face is that neither club really wishes to lose their star striker and are holding out for top dollar as they are entitled to do of course, however Valencia face a bit of a dilemma, Soldado is one of, if not, their top earner and after finishing fifth in the league have lost their Champions League revenue for the coming season at least. Financially Valencia were already struggling even before what has turned into a disastrous season for them, this might mean they have to take a hit and sell to raise funds, if this is the case Daniel Levy will know and will call their bluff in relation to their posturing at demanding the full buyout cost of the player understood to be £27m ish,

With a fee of £27m the 28 yr old Soldado is not a valid option for the likes of Tottenham no matter the extent of their ambition, far better to take a punt on a younger Benteke for a lesser fee and with the possibility of  one day being worth far more. Tottenham, with the signing of Villa for something in the region of £8.5m are covering themselves by buying a proven goalscorer to start the season knowing that he will have no resale value of consequence in a year or two, his cost is for a sum that they are willing to accept for the quality he will provide for two or three years at most.

With the news that Besiktas are strongly connected to the signing of Adebayor then Tottenham will be looking to add another striker to the mix, Soldado and Benteke are likely to be very high on the list of potential targets but I still have a suspicion that the young Argentinian at Roma, Erik Lamela, also features high on the agenda.

It would seem that the final piece of the jigsaw will probably revert to type by hoping to join just before the deadline expires, Tottenham have now entered into a whole new level of quality and so the stakes are far higher, hopefully this year, as seems likely, the squad will be sufficiently strengthened in time for the start of the season rather than relying upon last minute deals to pull the season around.

Arsenal fan here, but its better Spurs skip Soldado, he is good but not class at 25M+ with no resell value. Villa will not come below 10M, Benteke is a good option with gr8 resell value. He claimed he is Arsenal fan, so I doubt he will come cheap. Lamela is not gr8, but you can look around bit more. Damiao is good, there are many others too and I am sure Levy will land a good one

Soldado or Benteke are probably the preferred options but Levy won’t pay £25m plus and that is why the games will commence. I don’t think Damiao is an option anymore and Spurs are no longer interested. Lamela is young and a Baldini project, he also has a good goal record for a relative novice, real potential which is right up Levy street.
