Spurs youngsters impress on International duty.

Posted on September 10, 2014 by Eddie S

A good number of Tottenham’s youngsters have performed for their countries during this break in the premiership season and most have done extremely well, Eric Lamela led the way with a superb goal on his return to international duty for Argentina as the replacement for Lionel Messi, a resounding 4-2 victory over the newly crowned World Champions Germany, that was his only outing and that gave him the opportunity to rest up a little before returning to training a little earlier than most.

Christian Eriksen earned his 47th cap aged just 22 yrs a quite remarkable number so early in his career, he admitted that it wasn’t one of his best as he felt he lacked sharpness but the result, a win and 3 points was all important and he returns to his club fit and well.

Vlad Chiriches, though not one of our youngest, led his country to a good victory over a Greece team that had effectively eliminated them from the World Cup over the summer, he is now fit and ready for action though presumably is actually backup for Jan Vertonghen.Last night Ben Davies turned out for Wales against the minnows of Andorra and though a win was expected the difficult pitch made things difficult for them, one of our old boys scored the goals and another performed well at right back, as for Davies he brought calm and quality down the left flank and though commentary failed to even mention that he delivered a great ball in it was that quality that opened up the opposition with Bale actually using the pace and quality of the delivery to head home from distance. In my opinion it won’t be long before he takes his place in the Tottenham lineup. Today sees Nabil Bentaleb’s Algeria play the second of their games in the African Cup of Nations hoping to qualify for the finals in January next, he was perhaps surprisingly omitted from involvement in the first gamewhich Algeria won but might feature today. Though it was only the England U21 team one of the most interesting and effective performers during this break was Harry Kane, he came on as a late substitute against Lithuania and scored the winning goal and has scored goals at every level he has played for his country becoming more prolific as he gets older, not only that but he is adding creativity to his game proving the point with precision passes to set up Dier against West Ham and for England’s 2nd goal yesterday, he capped it off with another cracking goal of his own. It’s early days but his goals/assists to minutes played ratio is becoming impressive.

Tom Carroll also performed well for the U21’s being creative in advanced positions, as we know he is on loan at Swansea and will hopefully get the chance he needs to prove he can do it at the highest level.

The squad, other than Adebayor and Bentaleb, is now back on the training ground preparing to take on Sunderland, the absence of those 2 players until tomorow at the earliest might have a huge impact on the team chosen.
