As confidence returns so too Tottenham ambition. 1

Following an average performance at home to Crystal Palace followed by defeat at Besiktas that left the likelihood of a disastrous draw in the knockout stages of the Europa League, there was a  feeling of doom and gloom from the media(no surprise there), but also from some of the supporters of Tottenham. Despite Pochettino only having been in the job for a matter of weeks, the season began on the 16th August, that’s 4 months or 17 weeks or 120 days, whichever way you look at it no time at all, there were some actually already calling for his head and actually wishing we had stuck with Tim Sherwood!

Spurs youngsters impress on International duty. 1

A good number of Tottenham’s youngsters have performed for their countries during this break in the premiership season and most have done extremely well, Eric Lamela led the way with a superb goal on his return to international duty for Argentina as the replacement for Lionel Messi, a resounding 4-2 victory over the newly crowned World Champions Germany, that was his only outing and that gave him the opportunity to rest up a little before returning to training a little earlier than most.

Christian Eriksen earned his 47th cap aged just 22 yrs a quite remarkable number so early in his career, he admitted that it wasn’t one of his best as he felt he lacked sharpness but the result, a win and 3 points was all important and he returns to his club fit and well.

Tottenham European exit reviewed. 4

Let’s firstly clear one thing up, when Harry Kane burst into the box with the score at 2-1 in favour of Tottenham it was a penalty and not one of three officials close to the event had the guts or the conviction to reward Tottenham with the opportunity to at least to take the game into extra time. What had for most Tottenham supporters had been an excercise in damage limitation actually turned into a very acceptable performance from the entire team and though it is difficult and unfair to pick out individuals special credit must go to Sandro (the recipient of the award for worst Brazilian to appear in the Premiership from the esteemed journalist Adrian Durham) and Zeki Fryers who allowed very few opportunities to the opposition lauded last week as a class apart, Nabil Bentaleb, a player much maligned by us at JTN but responsible for driving the team forward, a couple of errors of judgement forgiven due to his inexperience and age. Then there was Nacer Chadli who helped himself to a couple of goals but contributed so much more over the entire game as an attacking and creative threat.

Firstly all of us at JTN apologies for being away at this most traumatic of times, unfortunately due to technical difficulties we could not post but we believe that we have resolved the issues and that all is well again.

Sherwood finds better balance as Spurs turn on style. 3

Tim Sherwood made three changes to the team that faced Everton although two were apparently enforced by injury to Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen, nevertheless the changes made all seemed to work well,  the extra pace of Younes Kaboul alongside Jan Vertonghen, switching Aaron Lennon to the left to give extra support to Kyle Naughton who was brought into the side in place of  Rose, most encouraging of all was the introduction of Etienne Capoue who really made a point with an exceptional contribution.

Tottenham team lineup v Everton. 0

Hopefully Sherwood will have realised by now that though a few other clubs might have a couple of better players to choose from if he gets his tactics right a result against anybody is possible. Less than a week ago he put out a team to face City and quite frankly for half an hour the opposition made chance after chance and should have been out of sight, thereafter the officials conspired to deny Tottenham any chance of getting a result. After the game he talked of City as being the best team in the world, champions elect and virtually unbeatable, since then Chelsea have put them firmly in their place with a 1-0 win at the Etihad, a result which was far more comfortable than the scoreline actually suggests, then yesterday lowly Norwich, who had been humiliated 7-0 in the corresponding fixture, held them to a goalless draw and had a couple of late chances to win it. BOTH teams used defensive midfielders and just the one up front.

Tottenham briefing 25/11. 0

All the news at the moment seems to surround Manchester United as they look to spend a couple of hundred million in this transfer window, as far as the rest of us mere mortals are concerned it’s much more mundane though. Chelsea have bought a few players with the proceeds from the over inflated price received from United for Mata, Arsenal are threatening to splurge upwards of £35m on another German and West Ham’s Big Sam does what he does best, look for loan signings to get his team out of relegation trouble.
