What did we learn from Celtic friendly? 30

Posted on August 02, 2014 by Scraggs

Having handed out a 6-1 hiding to a mainly second string Celtic team you might be forgiven for thinking that it was a useless excercise but it was never that, almost all of the travelling squad managed to get some time on the pitch which was crucial for players like Adebayor and Bentaleb, both lagging behind on the training pitch. younes Kaboul got another 90 minutes and came through unscathed and might have last got to grips with his old injury. Along with those positives there were also the performances of

Sandro set to leave Tottenham for Napoli! 3

Why do the various reports continue to refer Napoli as “giant” at the same time implying little old Tottenham are about to cave in over the transfer of Sandro to the Italian club? Again there is speculation surrounding firm favourite Sandro AKA “The Beast” linking him with a move to Italy, for a year or so his agents have apparently leaked stories of the players liking for Italian football leading up to this summer and what will surely be the time when a new contract will be discussed with the magic 2 years remaining on his old deal.

The case for the defensive midfielder proven. 1

Posted on February 13, 2014 by Scraggs

Less than a couple of weeks back Les Ferdinand was quite open in declaring that the defensive midfielder was likely to be a thing of the past and a dinosaur in the current Premiership era, especially while the current coaching partnership was in place, apparently himself, Sherwood and Chris Ramsey had all agreed that the position was not for Tottenham and an unnecessary evil. Many Tottenham supporters were a little concerned to hear such thoughts being openly admitted as one of their firm favourites is “The Beast” Sandro Raniere.

Sherwood finds better balance as Spurs turn on style. 3

Tim Sherwood made three changes to the team that faced Everton although two were apparently enforced by injury to Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen, nevertheless the changes made all seemed to work well,  the extra pace of Younes Kaboul alongside Jan Vertonghen, switching Aaron Lennon to the left to give extra support to Kyle Naughton who was brought into the side in place of  Rose, most encouraging of all was the introduction of Etienne Capoue who really made a point with an exceptional contribution.

Perhaps Sherwood and Ferdinand saw the benefit of defensive midfielders tonight? 7

Only last week Les Ferdinand, one of the Tottenham coaches went on record to voice his dislike of defensive midfielders, he was quite honest when he told the media that at Tottenham it is not just him though, the three first team coaches responsible for setting the team up and picking the side on match days all apparently have a total disregard for that type of player. The defensive midfielder were once referred to as the water carriers but in some teams absolutely have always been absolutely vital.

Tottenham in last day transfer madness! 4

The transfer window closes at 11pm this evening and by then we shall be treated to stories that will excite and disappoint but by the end of the night we shall be left with the squad to see us through the season and one that we hope has sufficient abilities and strength to cope with any eventuality that might befall individuals. Whether the three game suspension facing Danny Rose might concentrate the minds of Sherwood, Baldini and Levy into pursuing a left back remains to be seen, as surely if they unsuccessfully appeal the appalling decision on Wednesday they will not irritate Vertonghen and the fans by playing him anywhere but central defence for the remainder of the season.

Napoli showing interest in Capoue and Vertonghen! 6

Most of the transfer headlines surrounding Tottenham in recent weeks has seen plenty ofinterest from Italy in a number of  their players most purchased only a little over five months ago, it has come from Roma, Juventus or both of the Milan clubs. In almost every instance they have been prepared to offer a number of players in part exchange, usually players in the twighlight of their careers or surplus to requirements.

Yet another player looking for Tottenham exit 2

Posted on January 15, 2014 by Eddie S

Reports are continuing to grow that yet another of Tottenham’s recent recruits is seeking a way out as Nacer Chadli’s agent Daniel Evrard is another who has confirmed that his client fears for his place in Belgium’s World Cup squad. He said: “Nacer  has had to play in a role which doesn’t suit him. They wanted him to play on the left wing and he is not exactly a winger – he prefers to play through the middle. It’s very difficult for him because we’ve not seen the best of him at Tottenham. He has big potential so he is a little bit frustrated.”

Why are so many players looking for the exit at Tottenham. 6

It is hard to pick up a paper or view a sports report without seeing a variety of Tottenham players looking for a way out, the likelihood today and a rumour that is growing relates to Lewis Holtby who is apparently on the wishlist of no less than three German clubs. The general consensus of opinion amongst Tottenham fans is that selling Holtby would be disappointing as they see a player with heart, ability and a will to win. In the short time he has been with the club he has a very decent assist record, scored a couple of cracking goals and has a passing accuracy in his time of 82%, as well as that he creates chances at the rate of almost two per game, all of that despite never having a decent run in the team and being asked to play in a variety of positions.

Tottenham v Palace Review 12

Posted on January 12, 2014 by Tony

Tim Sherwood maintains his unbeaten run in the Premiership and with thirteen points from a possible fifteen some might think he he finds it all rather easy. The truth is that I doubt any of us really know just yet how successful or able he is or will become, the luck was with him yesterday as Palace tormented his team in the first half, missed a penalty and could quite easily have scored a couple more, the fact that he turned things around in the second half is hopefully testament to his ability to motivate the team and we move on to the next game.
