There was concern in some quarters when the Tottenham team was announced, No Chiriches, no Vertonghen and no Kaboul, all unfit to play and so Etienne Capoue was drafted in to cover for the three alongside Michael Dawson. Along with the left back problem and Sandro rested for this one many thought AVB had made some decisions that might come back and haunt him again but perhaps we should begin to have more faith in our coach as the team controlled almost every aspect of the game.

Last season when Sandro went down in obvious agony during the away fixture at QPR not only did Tottenham lose two points with a goalless draw, which you could argue eventually cost 4th place, but they lost a leader and a player who had become synonymous with graft and a never say die attitude, he was warrior of a player who didn’t know the meaning of defeat and is clearly an important member of the group.

As suggested by JTN yesterday Hugo Llloris has confirmed, during an interview as captain of his national team, that Etienne Capoue has completed his move to Tottenham and becomes another important member of the squad being assembled for a genuine assault on the Premiership title. Quite what his role will be is perhaps a little unclear as he is another quality player with the ability to operate in a number of positions. A tremendous defensive midfielder, the position which has cemented his reputation in recent years, but also able, because of his aerial ability and athleticism, to operate effectively as a central defender.
