Great Tottenham result patches over the problems. 4

Posted on March 24, 2014 by Scraggs

Yet again the headlines read “great Tottenham comeback” which follows on from other similar headlines of late like “Tottenham responded well to early setback” or ” Tottenham threatened a fantastic fightback”, the truth of the matter is that we all want to see more headlines of the nature of ” Tottenham controlled the game from start to finish” or ” Tottenham win never in doubt after taking early lead” It is a fact that Tottenham are the only club not to have scored in the first fifteen minutes of any game this season and though it is important and necessary to have the fight to comeback from falling behind it is becoming a situation all too familiar.

Tottenham European exit reviewed. 4

Let’s firstly clear one thing up, when Harry Kane burst into the box with the score at 2-1 in favour of Tottenham it was a penalty and not one of three officials close to the event had the guts or the conviction to reward Tottenham with the opportunity to at least to take the game into extra time. What had for most Tottenham supporters had been an excercise in damage limitation actually turned into a very acceptable performance from the entire team and though it is difficult and unfair to pick out individuals special credit must go to Sandro (the recipient of the award for worst Brazilian to appear in the Premiership from the esteemed journalist Adrian Durham) and Zeki Fryers who allowed very few opportunities to the opposition lauded last week as a class apart, Nabil Bentaleb, a player much maligned by us at JTN but responsible for driving the team forward, a couple of errors of judgement forgiven due to his inexperience and age. Then there was Nacer Chadli who helped himself to a couple of goals but contributed so much more over the entire game as an attacking and creative threat.

Sherwood finds better balance as Spurs turn on style. 3

Tim Sherwood made three changes to the team that faced Everton although two were apparently enforced by injury to Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen, nevertheless the changes made all seemed to work well,  the extra pace of Younes Kaboul alongside Jan Vertonghen, switching Aaron Lennon to the left to give extra support to Kyle Naughton who was brought into the side in place of  Rose, most encouraging of all was the introduction of Etienne Capoue who really made a point with an exceptional contribution.

Yet another player looking for Tottenham exit 2

Reports are continuing to grow that yet another of Tottenham’s recent recruits is seeking a way out as Nacer Chadli’s agent Daniel Evrard is another who has confirmed that his client fears for his place in Belgium’s World Cup squad. He said: “Nacer  has had to play in a role which doesn’t suit him. They wanted him to play on the left wing and he is not exactly a winger – he prefers to play through the middle. It’s very difficult for him because we’ve not seen the best of him at Tottenham. He has big potential so he is a little bit frustrated.”

The question is Lamela or Chadli? 3

With the appointment of Tim Sherwood comes a coach that, at the moment at least, is happy and content to trust the younger less experienced players. Against Southampton in what was his first premiership game in charge of the team some might have questioned whether Erik Lamela should have started the game, here was a player struggling to settle into the way of life, the football and the language, gone was the coach who could at least speak the same language and in his place came Tim Sherwood who speaks something like “Del Boy” barking out instruction.

At today’s press conference AVB cleared up a few points in preparation for tomorrows fixture, unfortunately Nacer Chadli and Aaron Lennon remain unfit to start, in fact the news in relation to Aaron Lennon gives no clear indication as to when he might be available, what started out as a minor knock has now been going on for over a moth already.

Today’s friendly against Espanyol was an excellent excercise for many of the squad as all the new boys took their place in the starting lineup and immediately showed their quality. Of course it will take more time to fully gel and get up to speed but very encouraging performances all round all the same.

It’s been a busy week for Tottenham. 0

After a relatively quiet period following the early purchase of Paulinho very little happened at Tottenham for some time other than the failure to complete the deal for David Villa. For the best part of two weeks it was all about the discussions and negotiations for Christian Benteke which came to a head with the news that he had decided to sign a lucrative new deal with Aston Villa. Many Tottenham supporters were disappointed that it seemed penny pinching had cost the deal when in reality he was not even a Tottenham target.

Who would have thought that leading up to another season exceptional players would appear to be desperate to join Tottenham, reports indicate that Nacer Chadli a young Belgian Internation who has been courted by Swansea, an up and coming team who will prove very dangerous this coming season, also by Shakhtar who will be participating in the Champions League this year, is actually holding out from accepting proposals in the hope that Tottenham will make an approach.
