It’s been 17years and they’re getting worse. 6

I don’t like to recall it too often but I can remember the day when Arsenal led in the Champions League final with a matter of minutes remaining and I can remember feeling envious of them. It was a good few years later before we experienced the glory of playing in the competition and as we know we made the country proud and lit up the competition all the way to the quarter finals. Tonight we saw the return of Liverpool to the competition against massive underdogs and by all accounts put in a poor performance and literally snatched a result in the last seconds. I can’t comment any more than that as I haven’t yet seen that game but

Europa League should remain important to Tottenham. 0

I cannot understand all the negativity surrounding qualifyication for the Europa League which should be our minimum target every season, qualifying for any of the three European competitions which once existed (forgetting the inter-toto) was once considered a success and should still be. We would all prefer that it be the Champions League but for whatever reason we are still not quite there though the challenge goes on.

The Europa League has been given the added impetus for the forthcoming tournament of offering a Champions League place to the winner, another route into the elite competition, and though the ridiculous situation of offering a lifeline to those third placed failures in the top competition will remain its importance continues to grow.

Whatever happened to honesty and sportsmanship? 1

On Tuesday Manchester City took on one of the heavyweights of European football Barcelona hoping to show that they had finally arrived themselves as a European force to be reckoned with, though they put up a terrific show they failed to stamp their authority on the game even changing their gameplan to accommodate the opposition, no surprise there had it been the away fixture perhaps. Early in the second half City made a couple of fatal errors, firstly Navas their flying little winger having lost possession of the ball went to ground attempting to gain an advantage by winning a free kick, as their players hesitated Barcelona struck and though the initial contact with Messi might have been fractionally outside the penalty box it was a clear foul, a clear goalscoring opportunity and the referee had no option but show a red card irrespective of whether it was in or out of the box.

Why the fuss about Champions League football. 1

As a player what is the fuss about playing Champions League football? Every year the major clubs player 6 matches in a league format and rarely are there any upsets. 90% of the fancied clubs generally go through comfortably before some decent action begins in the knockout stages. Luka Modric left Tottenham this season citing his wish to play in the Champions League and as one of the best midfielders in the world what he got was 6 starts, some meaningless as the job was done e.g. Ajax and Galataseray, and 5 substitute appearances, he totalled less than 600minutes of football and an average of 54 minutes in each game.

“I guarantee Liverpool will finish in top 4” 15/12/2009 R.Benitez.Beware Chelsea. 0

In December 2009 Rafa Benitez stated that he guaranteed that Liverpool would maintain their top four status come the end of the season, at that time they were just 3 points behind Tottenham, who we know eventually replaced them, and 2 points behind Manchester City. As things turned out both clubs extended their lead over Liverpool, Benitez was sacked and Liverpool have not come close to challenging since.

If Malaga are thrown out of Champions League will Tottenham regain place? 0

Posted on August 02, 2012 by Tony

Due to serious financial irregularities involving non payment of wages and transfer fees it appears that Malaga could be in breach of rules and  be thrown out of the Champions League, to my mind if this were to happen due to the circumstances of their omission from the competition the place should be handed back to Tottenham.

We all know that it will likely be the fifth placed team in Spain who will be handed the spot or perhaps a team in the Irish league, Platini will ensure that the English Premier league will not be handed another spot even though Tottenham thoroughly deserve to take their place as do Chelsea of course as the holders of the trophy.

7 go for Champions League-Spurs and Newcastle set to cause upsets. 0

Realistically there are now 7 clubs  challenging for a spot in the Champions League which means thar there will be 3 very disappointed sets of players and supporters come the end of the season.

The seven clubs are made up of the original Sky 4  Manchester United,Chelsea,Arsenal and Liverpool add to this Manchester City and the bankroll which has put them at the pinnacle of English clubs for the moment,  Spurs having proven over the last few seasons to be consistent performers achieving 4th place on two occasions now.The seventh club now ready and able to challenge is Newcastle, finishing 5th last season and going nip and tuck with Spurs and Arsenal for that coveted 4th place (well it was meant to be but for Chelsea winning it)for most of the season.

John Terry derailed Tottenham’s season in that game at QPR 0

Posted on June 14, 2012 by Tony

The game at QPR when the alleged Terry/Ferdinand incident occurred had more far reaching effects than could be imagined at the time and until the season starts or the transfer season ends we don’t know how it will all end, especially in regard to Tottenham Hotspurs.

Until then Fabio Capello was settled in as England manager having successfully guided us through to Euro 2012, Redknapp was roaring along with Spurs chasing the Manchester duo and well ahead of Arsenal. Champions League qualification was a foregone conclusion we all felt. Harry won his tax case and we beat Newcastle 5-0, and then the captaincy issue at England occurred. Capello was gone, Harry was installed as favourite to take over in his place, and Spurs season subsequently collapsed!

Modric to PSG 0

Posted on June 13, 2012 by Eddie S

Whilst all Spurs fans would rather he declare his wish to continue his career at White Hart Lane, the next best alternative is for Modric to play in another league. We do not wish to see him in the colours of a competitor.

It is being widely reported that PSG have entered the race for his signature although the supposed bid of £30m is not nearly enough, fortunately PSG have extremely wealthy benefactors, and, only last year they paid out approx.40m euros for Pastore who in my opinion is not of the same class as Modric.

Why would Modric leave Tottenham to go to ManUtd 0

Posted on June 10, 2012 by Tony

Well we cannot deny that over the past 20years Man U has been the place to go to win trophies, with the odd period of supremacy for Chelsea and Arsenal, but times have changed, where once United called the tune with finances Chelsea and Man City now dwarf them.

As well as the financial situation it would seem that Fergie is likely to retire sometime soon and there is no guarantee that a new manager will take them on,think Busby and the lack of real success post Busby.
