No room for Dempsey back at Tottenham. 10

The papers are full of the news that Tottenham have first option on Clint Dempsey should he return to the Premiership on loan this winter, having sold him just a little over three months ago does anybody else find it strange that there might be a fight over his services for just six weeks in the middle of a season. Tottenham have an enormous squad all battling to earn enough playing time to impress the coach so why exactly would they be considering an enormous outlay in wages and fee for a short term fix.

Tottenham take on Monaco in today’s friendly which forms part of their pre-season schedule leading up to the start of the new season, already it seems that they have lost the “deuce” and the “11 of hearts” to Seattle Sounders and Real Madrid respectively. In their place will be a reported £110m which is a serious sum of money with which to add others of sufficient quality.

Lennon returns but will he start? 0

There is no doubt that Tottenham have missed the services of Aaron Lennon over the past few games but the balance of the team that finished the Manchester City game certainly looked very effective. The central three of Huddlestone, Holtby and Dembele combined everything needed for a good midfield, Holtby and Dembele bring pace and power and the ability to support the forward players quickly and Tom Huddlestone, whilst a little cumbersome at times, has immeasurable passing quality and the ability to prompt attacks from just about any position on the field of play.

Clint Dempsey. Forward or midfielder? 0

Clint Dempsey brought his skills to the Premiership over 6 years ago and he has always been spoken of as a midfield player and most believed that is what Tottenham had bought on deadline day, albeit a midfielder with an eye for goal.

Dempsey has during his career averaged almost a goal every three games, impressive as a forward and more so if he is a midfielder. During his last season at Fulham he managed 23 goals in 46 games improving his average. After a far from impressive start for Tottenham he now has 7 goals to his credit as well as 5 assists from just 17 starts and 7 substitute appearances. Once he really starts to fire he could yet turn out to be one of the most impressive purchases as in the cases of Dembele, Vertonghen and Lloris.
