Tottenham briefing 25/11. 0

Posted on January 25, 2014 by Eddie S

All the news at the moment seems to surround Manchester United as they look to spend a couple of hundred million in this transfer window, as far as the rest of us mere mortals are concerned it’s much more mundane though. Chelsea have bought a few players with the proceeds from the over inflated price received from United for Mata, Arsenal are threatening to splurge upwards of ¬£35m on another German and West Ham’s Big Sam does what he does best, look for loan signings to get his team out of relegation trouble.

Why are so many players looking for the exit at Tottenham. 6

It is hard to pick up a paper or view a sports report without seeing a variety of Tottenham players looking for a way out, the likelihood today and a rumour that is growing relates to Lewis Holtby who is apparently on the wishlist of no less than three German clubs. The general consensus of opinion amongst Tottenham fans is that selling Holtby would be disappointing as they see a player with heart, ability and a will to win. In the short time he has been with the club he has a very decent assist record, scored a couple of cracking goals and has a passing accuracy in his time of 82%, as well as that he creates chances at the rate of almost two per game, all of that despite never having a decent run in the team and being asked to play in a variety of positions.

Tottenham transfer rumours analysed. 5

The transfer window has opened and the stories begin to flow as journalists and pundits try to determine the type of players and more importantly which players clubs such as Tottenham need to improve their team and squad going into the final phase of the season.

Tottenham latest for 2014. 6

The New Year has only just begun but what have we already learned?

Judging from early reports perhaps the expected arrival of a new left back is not the obvious addition to the squad during this transfer window. There is little doubt that Danny Rose has been a massive loss for more than three months, if he has not yet firmly established his place in the starting lineup then he is surely very close to doing so and it seems that Zeki Fryers might yet be the one to be his back up. Tottenham have for too long had to rely upon Jan Vertonghen to step in and cover for Rose with the result being that our best central defender has been sacrificed. There have been numerous rumours surrounding a replacement for Rose  rather than back up which is really rather surprising. Where once another left back was a possibility Tim Sherwood seems set to put his trust in Fryers if the need arises.

Should Soldado start against Sheriff? 13

Posted on November 07, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

We all know that Roberto Soldado is the number one striker at Tottenham and the go too centre forward for AVB, not because of his huge transfer fee and salary but because he is the clubs top striker by a country mile. Jermain Defoe is attracting all the plaudits because of his goals so far this season and because his last effort tied him with the all time record holder at Tottenham Martin Chivers, but the truth of the matter is that all those goals have come against vastly inferior opposition rather than the banks of top defenders set up to prevent Tottenham and Soldado from scoring this season.

Time to reflect on a poor Tottenam performance. 14

From the moment news came through that Jermain Defoe was starting up front in place of Roberto Soldado there was a strange but familiar feel to yesterdays proceedings, it felt a little like so many other days of the past when we feared that the result might not to turn out as we would like. Of course yesterdays poor performance was not the fault of nor driven by the appearance in the team of Defoe, but it might have put in the players minds that the fault of the teams lack of goals was down to Soldado rather than their own performances or even how AVB had the team was set up.

Adebayor is back and needs our full support. This is what he can do for us.(video) 6

Emmanuel Adebayor was rarely fully fit last season and he possibly made some decisions that ruffled a few feathers at Tottenham, not least AVB who was already very light on strikers. Most believed that he would be leaving Tottenham during the summer transfer window and when that didn’t happen there was even talk of being loaned to QPR. He has suffered a personal family tragedy and so missed most of preseason, when he did return to Tottenham he was made to train with the development squad in order to regain fitness!

AVB has his perfect strike force. 0

At the moment none of us are quite sure the situation with Adebayor so at the moment it’s fair to exclude him from the equation, that then leaves AVB with just the three strikers, Soldado, Defoe and Kane. It is clearly the case that AVB is never likely to set his team up to start a match in the 4-4-2 formation, that is not to say that if the need arises and the bench allows for the switch to happen he will do so.

Defoe admits to more signings, but who and where? 0

Jermaine Defoe was obviously all the rage following his hat trick in Hong Kong this morning. He confirmed that he was looking forward to an exciting season ahead and expected a top four finish and Champions League football at the end of it. He seems assured of his position within the squad and there seems little likelihood of his leaving this summer, he was of course one of the players who launched the new kit along with Gareth Bale, Brad Friedel and Michael Dawson the club captain.

Benteke to Tottenham off the agenda. 0

Posted on June 06, 2013 by Scraggs

Christian Benteke has been the firm favourite of most Tottenham supporters to be targeted as the solution to the striking problem for this coming season, there has been talk of a Tottenham offer having been made of a large cash sum and Jermaine Defoe in exchange and this does not sit well with me. We hear all too often that a star player of a club has been targeted and that the offer is cash and player(s) and it is never true, there have been occasions when there have been player exchanges as part of a transfer but the selling club are the instigators of the enquiry for the makeweight, who then has to agree terms and make the final decision as to whether he is willing to be a part of the deal.
