Some interesting Tottenham rumours of the day. 1

Posted on February 13, 2014 by Guest Writer

Until the summer there is little point in dedicating a page to rumour surrounding the club but from time to time a bunch of stories reach us that simply must be commented on. Of course most rumour of late has surrounded the possibility of a new Dutch coach arriving to lead the team next season but one interesting development this week has been the possibility of Tim Sherwood being willing to work with the more experienced Louis Van Gaal so as to take over from him at some time in the future, strangely enough it is a situation that many might feel more comfortable with ensuring continuity for the long term. Until the season is over, we know our fate and then the World cup finishes this will just have to sit on the back burner.

Tottenham team lineup v Everton. 0

Hopefully Sherwood will have realised by now that though a few other clubs might have a couple of better players to choose from if he gets his tactics right a result against anybody is possible. Less than a week ago he put out a team to face City and quite frankly for half an hour the opposition made chance after chance and should have been out of sight, thereafter the officials conspired to deny Tottenham any chance of getting a result. After the game he talked of City as being the best team in the world, champions elect and virtually unbeatable, since then Chelsea have put them firmly in their place with a 1-0 win at the Etihad, a result which was far more comfortable than the scoreline actually suggests, then yesterday lowly Norwich, who had been humiliated 7-0 in the corresponding fixture, held them to a goalless draw and had a couple of late chances to win it. BOTH teams used defensive midfielders and just the one up front.

Tottenham review v Stoke. 1

a 3-0 win is always an acceptable result but sometimes team selection, team and individual performances are all far more important, yesterday Tim Sherwood got far more right than wrong although it must of course be viewed in the context of it only being a Stoke team shorn of many of their first choice players. Of course you can only beat what is put in front of you and the Stoke team chosen did their utmost to make it a difficult game.

Last season when Sandro went down in obvious agony during the away fixture at QPR not only did Tottenham lose two points with a goalless draw, which you could argue eventually cost 4th place, but they lost a leader and a player who had become synonymous with graft and a never say die attitude, he was warrior of a player who didn’t know the meaning of defeat and is clearly an important member of the group.

Do City and Spurs have the edge in midfield? 3

Having watched a lot of football this season including all of Tottenham’s eight fixtures and a couple of Manchester City games, it seems to me that both clubs now have within their ranks the type of players that can overpower and bully the opposition almost to the point of submission.

Tottenham midfield is up to the challenge. 0

Southern softies, no fight, soft underbelly, how many times has the Tottenham team and in particular their midfield been referred to in such a way? Well no longer, AVB has not just one midfielder prepared to fight and battle but a squad full of players prepared to give their all for the cause.

Capoue injury not serious. 0

It has been reported that Etienne Capoue has not sustained a leg break and whilst there might yet be some minor ligament damage it is claimed that he will not be out of action for any significant length of time. He has been forced to withdraw from the French squad for this weeks important fixtures which is obviously a blow, but from a Tottenham perspective with a two week break before facing Norwich at home it does seem particularly good news.
