Spurs youngsters impress on International duty. 1

Posted on September 10, 2014 by Eddie S

A good number of Tottenham’s youngsters have performed for their countries during this break in the premiership season and most have done extremely well, Eric Lamela led the way with a superb goal on his return to international duty for Argentina as the replacement for Lionel Messi, a resounding 4-2 victory over the newly crowned World Champions Germany, that was his only outing and that gave him the opportunity to rest up a little before returning to training a little earlier than most.

Christian Eriksen earned his 47th cap aged just 22 yrs a quite remarkable number so early in his career, he admitted that it wasn’t one of his best as he felt he lacked sharpness but the result, a win and 3 points was all important and he returns to his club fit and well.

Liverpool are going the route of Tottenham last year. 49

Liverpool and Sky seem to be rolling out all the old names from Liverpools past in some sort of effort to convince everybody that they are not going to fall into the same trap as Tottenham of a year ago, Brendan Rodgers they assure us is a master when it comes to buying players and unlike Tottenham will easily cope with the loss of Suarez and challenge for the title. I agree that he has acquired a few players with premier league experience and that it will help considerably but there are other problems to overcome and at the moment Liverpool look like that will buy even more than the seven of Tottenham.

Tottenham’s real star of the season Hugo Lloris has apparently caught the eye of the richest clubs in France with both Monaco and PSG supposedly taking an interest in his services. As usual the press seem to be keen on selling the best that Tottenham have, following the departures of Bale and Modric in the last two seasons our star attractions at the moment include Lloris, Vertonghen and Eriksen, so they are sure to be the players at the ¬†centre of transfer rumours away from the club over the course of the summer.

Yet again the headlines read “great Tottenham comeback” which follows on from other similar headlines of late like “Tottenham responded well to early setback” or ” Tottenham threatened a fantastic fightback”, the truth of the matter is that we all want to see more headlines of the nature of ” Tottenham controlled the game from start to finish” or ” Tottenham win never in doubt after taking early lead” It is a fact that Tottenham are the only club not to have scored in the first fifteen minutes of any game this season and though it is important and necessary to have the fight to comeback from falling behind it is becoming a situation all too familiar.

Tottenham European exit reviewed. 4

Let’s firstly clear one thing up, when Harry Kane burst into the box with the score at 2-1 in favour of Tottenham it was a penalty and not one of three officials close to the event had the guts or the conviction to reward Tottenham with the opportunity to at least to take the game into extra time. What had for most Tottenham supporters had been an excercise in damage limitation actually turned into a very acceptable performance from the entire team and though it is difficult and unfair to pick out individuals special credit must go to Sandro (the recipient of the award for worst Brazilian to appear in the Premiership from the esteemed journalist Adrian Durham) and Zeki Fryers who allowed very few opportunities to the opposition lauded last week as a class apart, Nabil Bentaleb, a player much maligned by us at JTN but responsible for driving the team forward, a couple of errors of judgement forgiven due to his inexperience and age. Then there was Nacer Chadli who helped himself to a couple of goals but contributed so much more over the entire game as an attacking and creative threat.

Tottenham show up-eventually. 0

Through to the next round in true Tottenham fashion, make the task impossible before going for it. Tim Sherwood chose an adventurous set up  and yet for more than fifty minutes though there was almost total control there was as usual very little cutting edge. Christian eriksen was our most dangerous attacker for the majority of the first half though Soldado and Adebayor worked extremely hard.

Dembele looked at home in the centre of the pitch with his old partner Sandro, “The Beast ” returned sporting a colourful beard but put in his usual solid performance, in a 4 4 2 formation surely that partnership has proven itself to be extremely formidable. Special mentions for Zeki Fryers and Naughton who both put in strong performances.

Tottenham go level with Champions elect Liverpool. 11

Tottenham went to Swansea today and after a slow start eventually gained control, turned the screw and won the game quite comfortably. Having now drawn level with one of the teams that many have been tipping to pinch the title, Liverpool, Tottenham have now managed to win five of the six games since AVB was sacked following that home mauling from them, the goal difference has at last been turned into a positive and still some of their best players have to return from injury.

Tottenham v Palace Review 12

Tim Sherwood maintains his unbeaten run in the Premiership and with thirteen points from a possible fifteen some might think he he finds it all rather easy. The truth is that I doubt any of us really know just yet how successful or able he is or will become, the luck was with him yesterday as Palace tormented his team in the first half, missed a penalty and could quite easily have scored a couple more, the fact that he turned things around in the second half is hopefully testament to his ability to motivate the team and we move on to the next game.

United trashed again, Arsenal your next the 5000 are coming. 16

Before we even get into the football side of the game and the job Tim Sherwood is doing let’s first acknowledge the wonderful away support that Tottenham have, from the off all I could hear on the box were the Spurs fans singing and encouraging our boys and they kept it going to the very end, no wonder Arsenal are so concerned about giving Tottenham their full allocation of tickets for next week, nevertheless the 5000 that will be allowed will give a great account of themselves against the 65000 of Arsenal at the library.

Tottenham midfield is up to the challenge. 0

Southern softies, no fight, soft underbelly, how many times has the Tottenham team and in particular their midfield been referred to in such a way? Well no longer, AVB has not just one midfielder prepared to fight and battle but a squad full of players prepared to give their all for the cause.
