Following an average performance at home to Crystal Palace followed by defeat at Besiktas that left the likelihood of a disastrous draw in the knockout stages of the Europa League, there was a  feeling of doom and gloom from the media(no surprise there), but also from some of the supporters of Tottenham. Despite Pochettino only having been in the job for a matter of weeks, the season began on the 16th August, that’s 4 months or 17 weeks or 120 days, whichever way you look at it no time at all, there were some actually already calling for his head and actually wishing we had stuck with Tim Sherwood!

Pochettino is for evolution not revolution. 0

Tottenham bought 6 players during the summer transfer window though only 5 are currently with the squad as Deandre Yedlin continues his education in the MLS until the end of their season. All of the players purchased were acquired for their defensive qualities as Pochettino clearly recognised that this was the part of Tottenham’s game most in need of overhaul and he was right. Interestingly despite adding all this defensive quality to the squad he has so far resisited making wholesale changes to the team.

After tomorrows final involvement of our players in international fixtures during this break we shall see all our players return to the club to begin preparations for the upcoming away fixture at Sunderland, fortunately it should not have taken too much out of any of our players  with many benefiting from what has turned out to be a break for them. Now that the transfer window has closed our coaching team will have the opportunity to get to work on developing all the members of our squad into an effective unit

Once the Tottenham squad return from International duty this week it will be necessary to choose the club captain, Mauricio Pochettino went to great pains to point out that he wished to wait until after the transfer window closed to make the appointment and he also said that it was a matter for the entire squad to have input. Because of the delay many have jumped to the conclusion that one of the new signings was to be appointed with Fazio, being a fellow countryman and the captain of Sevilla, of course he was only appointed their captain in this close season the club having sold last years captain to Barcelona. So who might it be?

Spurs don’t do parking the bus…but if they did they would play Fazio. 0

Finally Tottenham got their man and Frederico Fazio became the clubs fifth signing of the summer, he replaces Michael Dawson who has left for Hull in a £6m deal. It is interesting to note that every signing so far has centred around the Tottenham defence with even the much sought after Schneiderlin specialising in the destructive side of the game. Fazio comes with a good reputation, a bigger reputation in Spain than the fee would suggest,

Fazio it is then, Diego Costa won’t be pleased.(Video) 0

Musacchio and Depay took their places in the Villarreal and PSV teams respectively last night effectively ruling out any likelihood of signing either player this transfer window. Both are now effectively cup tied in the Europa League which now offers another route into the Champions League for the winners, some say it offers Tottenham their best opportunity this season. Though you never know in football it does seem that Pochettino has authorised a change of target in central defence with the more mature and far cheaper
