With Younes Kaboul newly established as club captain and with two able deputies in Hugo Lloris and Emanuel Adebayor also appointed it must surely be expected that at least one of them will be handed the armband for tomorrows opening fixture in Europe. With such a huge and powerful squad to call upon Mauricio Pochettino will undoubtedly take the opportunity to rotate his squad, some players need to be saved for upcoming fixtures while others need minutes to reach match fitness.

Once the Tottenham squad return from International duty this week it will be necessary to choose the club captain, Mauricio Pochettino went to great pains to point out that he wished to wait until after the transfer window closed to make the appointment and he also said that it was a matter for the entire squad to have input. Because of the delay many have jumped to the conclusion that one of the new signings was to be appointed with Fazio, being a fellow countryman and the captain of Sevilla, of course he was only appointed their captain in this close season the club having sold last years captain to Barcelona. So who might it be?

Just like Sandro might be heading to Napoli or even Zenit for ¬£5m, like Lloris being ¬†targeted by Monaco and PSG and now Jan Vertonghen being the subject of interest from Barcelona and several other clubs according to his agent, perhaps we should be reading “I have 2 years left on my existing contract and if you don’t come up with more money and a longer deal then my value will begin to decrease or I might consider taking up one of these so called offers”

Tottenham’s performance on Sunday could hardly be described as exciting, flowing, confident or convincing but most importantly it was a winning performance and the challenge for a Champions League place goes on. Most would agree that the three of Chelsea, Arsenal and City are safe in the race for a top four position, though Harry Redknapp’s suggestion that Arsenal might yet falter might not be so far fetched judging from their performance this weekend, if accurate then the final spot would seem to be between ourselves, Liverpool, Everton and United.

Arsene Wenger, most of his staff and virtually every supporter of the club must be very well aware of the type of players needed and the specific positions that they play that requires major improvement. You only have to listen and read the moans and groans of most supporters to be aware but still Wenger simply goes about papering over the cracks on the cheap rather than pay for a professional job.

With reports that a sizeable bid has been made by Tottenham for Hugo Lloris the French and Olympique Marseille keeper it would appear that Tottenham are seeking to ensure the long term future of this position within the team..At only 25yrs of age he has already been voted the French Leagues keeper of the season 3 yrs in a row, represented his country 37 times and is the currently captain of the International side.

He could potentially be the Tottenham keeper for the next 10 to 15 years. Arsenal are also reputedly to be keen to sign Lloris which is a little surprising to me as their current encumbent of that position I understood to be very highly thought of,certainly his ego thinks so.
