How are the squads shaping up? 1

Posted on July 30, 2016 by Scraggs

Well we at JTN have enjoyed a nice long break and tried to avoid the farcical transfer merry-go-round as much as possible without getting too involved. As we all know the press and general media whip up a storm with often ridiculous rumour as clubs go about re-shaping their squads for the coming season and now we shall attempt to put our spin on the situation in relation to the probable top clubs which now, rightly, includes Leicester with Tottenham now firmly established in that group.

The Premier League contenders 2016/17. 0

The 2015/16 season was absolutely nothing like many expected and whilst some argue that it was sub standard in quality it is mainly only those obsessed by huge transfer fees and wages, the opinion of the majority was that it was probably one of the best Premier League seasons ever with the hope and belief that the monopoly that has existed for far too long might just have been broken up for ever.

Pellegrini writes off Tottenham challenge. Let’s hope it comes back to haunt him. 7

The Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini has gone on record to write off the title hopes of both Tottenham, who his team face next, and Liverpool who are currently sitting in second place four points ahead of City. Based upon the final table of the past few seasons he might well have a point but then this is proving to be a very unusual season, already his team have lost four of eleven fixtures so far and when you take into account that they lost just six games during the whole of last season and only five the season before , then Pellegrini and his team have problems of their own to resolve before commenting on others.

Should Adebayor be an option from the bench against City? 2

Tottenham resume their season following an international break for the third time having had to endure defeat in the preceding games, firstly a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal following which Tottenham were accused of bringing in far to many players during the transfer window and therefore lacking any cohesion. Next up was West Ham and despite dominating for most of the game they were undone by three goals the last of which was truly impressive, on this occasion a fine defensive performance from the hammers who played without a recognised striker strangled Tottenham’s attacking play. The most recent outing and another home defeat to Newcastle was probably the most difficult to take as it could and should have been a game in which the goals for column substantially increased, as we now know Tim Krul produced THE goalkeeping performance of the past seven seasons to deny the Tottenham attack.

North London clubs taking over from Northern softies? 0

Take a look at the Premier League table and you will see Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea leading the way while both Manchester clubs continue to fall further behind. Yesterday United were beaten at home by a West Bromwich team who have failed to win at Old Trafford for thirty five years, it was no flaky win either as WBA were the stronger team overall, Van Persie and Rooney were both on the pitch but failed to make much of an impression.

Tottenham have caught Arsenal and Chelsea, Manchester clubs next? 22

Judging by the vitriol aimed Tottenham’s way and the happiness surrounding Gareth Bale’s departure in many parts of London it at last seems to have got through that AVB has put together a squad that gives Tottenham every chance of doing well this coming season.

Should Tottenham really fear Chelsea and United? 2

Having watched two of the favourites for the title battle their way to a goalless draw last night got me thinking that Tottenham really might have a shot at the title. Was there really so much difference between two of the favourites and this new Tottenham side.

Tottenham and City the big winners as United and Arsenal fans panic. 2

With less than three weeks left of the transfer window and a matter of a couple of days until the big kick off only Tottenham and Manchester City have significantly improved their squads of the top five of last season, Chelsea have made a couple of big signings but arguably neither will really displace existing players just yet.

City have spent the best part of £90m so far buying players to improve their midfield and offensive options and do not seem likely to stop just yet, defence is an area that their new coach has identified as needing improvement and they have the money to make it happen. Their squad has become deeper with more top quality additions ensuring they will be contenders for the title, the only negative might be the loss of Tevez.

City and Chelsea play fantasy football, AVB builds a team. 0

The two clubs that have underachieved in terms of the amount of money spent are both City and Chelsea, it is true that both have won important competitions but the clubs owners have not been satisfied and so Mancini of City and Villas-Boas, Di Mateo and Benitez have all paid the price. Even Mourinho was sacked because of the style of play and lack of European success.

Will Tottenham take advantage of managerial merry go round. 0

With four of the top six clubs in England changing manager/coach this summer, a couple enforced and a couple because of dissatisfaction, it is hoped that Tottenham might take some sort of advantage from their own relative calmness leading up to the start of the season ( Gareth Bale/ Real Madrid fiasco apart ). Only ourselves and fourth placed Arsenal have managed to ensure a bit of stability which could be beneficial in the early stages at least.
