Sad day as Captain Dawson leaves but happy to welcome Fazio. 2

We knew it was coming but after nine years of giving everything to the Tottenham cause Michael Dawson has now committed himself to Hull. someone on social media said that they felt more disappointed and saddened by his exit than even that of Gareth Bale and I can understand why. If it’s a battle you want then Michael Dawson is your man, if it’s a player prepared to put his body on the line then Michael Dawson is your man. He has been our club captain since Ledley King vacated the position but even in his absence he was the man the coach called upon to lead the team and he goes with the best wishes of the Tottenham fans ringing in his ears.

Time to turn testimonials to charity matches. 0

By all accounts the delay that Hull are experiencing in completing the purchase of Michael Dawson reputedly relates to the fact that the player is entitled to a testimonial during his current contract and that means he wants a pay off to compensate him! If this is true it is a sad indictment of today’s footballer, the reason for a testimonial was always to reward players for their service or for players who had their careers cut short through illness or injury, in those days their career was considered shorter than now and they really did not earn enough to ensure a good lifestyle until retirement.

Is Chiriches ready to replace Michael Dawson? (video) 6

As Michael Dawson hits a bad patch at the centre of Tottenhams defence so the newest addition at the back, Vlad Chiriches continues to improve and endear himself to all at Tottenham, take a look at player ratings and you will see that he is now the considered to be Tottenham’s most impressive defender and he just keeps improving with every game. There probably is little doubt that Jan Vertonghen would be leading the way had he had the benefit of playing in his favoured position but having been forced to help out at fullback even he has dropped down the list.

Possible delay in Vertonghen and Kaboul combo. 2

So the battle is on for Jan Vertonghen  to regain fitness for the start of the season and to take his place in the lineup alongside Younes Kaboul, an unfortunate slip in poor conditions in Hong Kong has possibly once again delayed what we all hope will be a wonderful defensive partnership.

Last season Kaboul was the recipient of an injury soon into the first game of the season and he did not reappear again, it has taken him almost a year but he is now back, the information being provided is that the ankle injury might possibly keep Vertonghen away for three to four weeks so with 22 days remaining before the season opener, make that 23 days because of the Sunday kick off, it could still happen if he is a quick healer and the medical staff can do their stuff.

Michael Dawson’s new deal spells the end for William Gallas. 1

In the past week AVB has gone on record as saying that he likes and normally operates with four central defenders in his squads and whilst Tottenham have five at present this was due to the serious injury suffered by Younes Kaboul in August.

It looked at one stage like Michael Dawson would be the player leaving as bids from a couple of clubs were accepted, he decided he would prefer to stay and fight for recognition helped by that injury to Kaboul. He is now believed to be in negotiation with Tottenham over a new contract for a further four years.

Has Dawson secured his place at Tottenham at the expense of Gallas? 0

Over the past couple of months Villas-Boas seems to have recognised the need for a centre half in the mould of and with the battling abilities of Michael Dawson, not the ideal player for all fixtures but against the likes of Stoke, West Ham and a few others the type you would trust to fight all the way. It appears that William Gallas is getting less and less game time of late and as he he six years older than Dawson and his contract expires this summer when he will be approaching 36yrs of age it might be that the situation has changed.
