Soldado is all we expected despite slow start. 8

Whenever you read that Tottenham still have a striker problem the reality is that nothing could actually be further from the truth, many tend to regard the defence as perhaps the main attribute of the team what with them having conceded just a solitary goal all season in all competitions, of course there is little doubt that the defensive unit is working extremely well, aided of course by a robust hardworking midfield, but to suggest that it is the only area in which Tottenham excel is clearly wrong.

Roberto Soldado became Tottenham’s third major signing of the transfer window and the clubs transfer record was broken for a second time, Valencia drove a hard bargain and finally received a fee of almost £26m for their prolific goalscorer. With a record of more than twenty league goals  in each of his past three seasons Soldado is a goalscorer supreme and his fee reflects this.

Soldado will comfortably replace Bale goals. 2

After just three games for his new club Roberto Soldado already has four goals to his name in a Tottenham shirt all in competitive fixtures, he has only trained with his new teammates for a matter of a couple of weeks and is already four goals ahead of Bale at the same stage of last season. Some will point to the fact that half have come from penalties but Gareth Bale has a record of one taken and one missed and he also had the benefit of taking every free kick even remotely within range last year.

Soldado set to challenge RVP for the Golden Boot. 12

Last season Robin Van Persie won the Golden Boot for the second consecutive season but was pushed every step of the way by Luis Suarez, who missed  some of the season due to suspension as he will do again having six games still remaining of his ban, a little further behind was Gareth Bale with a remarkable twenty one goals for a player used as only the second striker.

This summer Manchester City, Swansea and Tottenham have each gone out and purchased a new centre forward at great expense, Negredo has gone to City, Bony to Swansea and Soldado to Tottenham, all have quickly found their form and the net for their respective clubs and each of them looks set for a good season.

Ledley gives Tottenham new boys the thumbs up. 0

Our very own Ambassador, Ledley King has spoken about Tottenham’s transfer dealings so far this summer, as a person and player that we all trust and admire then his opinion on each of the three incoming players so far should give us huge hope for the forthcoming season.

The first player through the doors was of course Paulinho for a then record Tottenham transfer fee of £17m, fresh from inspiring and powerful performances for Brazil in a successful Confederations Cup campaign Ledley only has good things to say about a midfielder he considers as world class already. Paulinho is an all action midfielder ideally suited to the Premier League, he is a huge prescence offering pace and power to the Tottenham midfield already well stocked with quality, he has a propensity to find space in the box and brings with him an exceptional goalscoring record.

Two more Tottenham signings about to be announced 0

We have been waiting for the signing of Soldado for what seems an eternity but we learn that the deal is now close to being confirmed but better still will be the announcement that a second signing has been made, possibly a little surprising if true and a little worrying in terms of the current fitness of Younes Kaboul. The rumour is that 22yr old right sided central defender Vlad Chiriches has been signed from Steaua Bucharest at a cost of something in the region of £8m, not 23yrs old until November he is another central defender in the mould of Jan Vertonghen and already a full Romanian international.
Chiriches has been described by some as the most stylish defender in Europe. We have copied and pasted a small extract of an article found to best describe his attributes, if he is half the player described then we are in for a treat. “Chiriches is a stylish defender. He is a libertine, a libero-lothario who loves the ball like few others in his position. Where most centre backs would whack he caresses. He carries the ball out from the back with the tender control and poise of a tango dancer. He rarely wastes possession and is always looking to start attacks. Even under pressure his instinct is to pass not punt.
While his languid style makes him appear unhurried he is deceptively fast – able to cover ground quickly in defence or burst forward at pace. He is not afraid to throw his body on the line for the sake of his team. He has the courage to try and find a teammate with every pass. And, although not tall for his position, at 184cm, Chiriches is seldom dominated in the air”. this description comes from a respected Romanian international of the recent past. He is also no stranger to scoring a goal or two and creating chances.
By now we already know exactly what we shall be getting with Roberto Soldado, a predatory goal poacher with sublime skills and great all round ability.

First of three Tottenham deals completed. 0

Today was the turn of Nacer Chadli to sign his contract and become a Tottenham player, he is the second player signed this summer and will become an integral part of the squad but it is anticipated that he will be the first of three new deals this week alone.

Suarez £50m, Higuain £34m, Soldado a bargain at £24m. 1

On the face of it the price quoted for Roberto Soldado, reputed to be in the region £24m, would appear to be extremely high for a player who will be twenty eight years of age by the time the season starts. Last summer United paid a similar sum for Robin Van Persie, a player with a tremendous goalscoring record and proven in the Premiership but also a year older and in the final year of his contract at the time.

Soldado set on Tottenham transfer. 0

It seems from reports in Spain and the UK that it is not only Tottenham keen on Roberto Soldado but the player himself is also very keen to join Tottenham and joins the list of players choosing the challenge for honours that AVB seems intent on and promises for the near future.

At the moment the hierarchy at Valencia have said things that seems to suggest that until Tottenham agree to pay the full asking price nothing will happen, based upon the figures suggested surrounding the transfer of Negredo to City the sum suggested does seem a little on the high side although as a contracted player the club are entitled to ask what they want and it is for Tottenham to negotiate or ultimately pay the price for the player.

Soldado to Tottenham reported in Spain to be agreed. 0

I am at the moment about 30 miles from Valencia and the talk over here at the moment is that Tottenham’s Franco Baldini has shaken hands on a deal to bring Soldado to Tottenham, I’m hearing about 20m euros but with add- ons rising to nearer 25m euros. Nothing definite yet and the player himself will have to go through the motions of a medical, it would seem likely that personal terms are also agreed in principal.

More news as we get it. But hoping it is true.
