Soldado and Kane have earned a shot. 0

It has been obvious for a while now that the team are becoming more creative with Roberto Soldado leading the line, even during the pre-season tour he seemed to have built some sort of creative understanding with Christian Eriksen and in particular Erik Lamela. Soldado has played very few games but is creeping closer and closer to those elusive goals that will hopefully eventually ignite his career in North London. Despite only featuring in a handful of games he already has more assists to his name than Adebayor and he played a vital role in both goals on Wednesday.

Perspective:City defeat should not disguise a good performance. 12

On the face of it a 4-1 defeat suggests yet another dismal Tottenham display against Manchester City but I and many other Tottenham supporters did not quite see it that way and nor should any of us. We travelled to the Etihad Stadium in the knowledge that we had conceded eleven goals against the Champions of England just last season, six on that away visit, nobody gave us much of a chance and yet for almost 70 minutes of what was a thrilling encounter Tottenham were in the match every step of the way and contributed an equal number of efforts on the City goal.

Pros and cons of Pochettino rotation system. 4

Having such a big squad it is essential that every senior player plays in competitive fixtures on a regular basis, they have to be up to speed if and when needed for every fixture, some of our younger players also have to be introduced into playing with the senior players to enable them to progress and to assess their development. the problem as I see it though is that some of our players who had big reputations and who badly need to find form are not getting the best opportunity to do so.

8 linked with Tottenham exit. 0

It looks as though Tottenham are about to ruthlessly reduce their player staff with Pochettino having no more time remaining in which to assess the squad at his disposal, with little more than a dozen hours of the window remaining at least 8 of our senior players are linked with exits. Some are obvious exits as they have failed to make their mark, others might be looking for the exit door having failed to establish themselves in the team and want more time on the pitch.

Great Tottenham result patches over the problems. 4

Yet again the headlines read “great Tottenham comeback” which follows on from other similar headlines of late like “Tottenham responded well to early setback” or ” Tottenham threatened a fantastic fightback”, the truth of the matter is that we all want to see more headlines of the nature of ” Tottenham controlled the game from start to finish” or ” Tottenham win never in doubt after taking early lead” It is a fact that Tottenham are the only club not to have scored in the first fifteen minutes of any game this season and though it is important and necessary to have the fight to comeback from falling behind it is becoming a situation all too familiar.

Tottenham show up-eventually. 0

Through to the next round in true Tottenham fashion, make the task impossible before going for it. Tim Sherwood chose an adventurous set up  and yet for more than fifty minutes though there was almost total control there was as usual very little cutting edge. Christian eriksen was our most dangerous attacker for the majority of the first half though Soldado and Adebayor worked extremely hard.

Dembele looked at home in the centre of the pitch with his old partner Sandro, “The Beast ” returned sporting a colourful beard but put in his usual solid performance, in a 4 4 2 formation surely that partnership has proven itself to be extremely formidable. Special mentions for Zeki Fryers and Naughton who both put in strong performances.

Tottenham team lineup v Everton. 0

Hopefully Sherwood will have realised by now that though a few other clubs might have a couple of better players to choose from if he gets his tactics right a result against anybody is possible. Less than a week ago he put out a team to face City and quite frankly for half an hour the opposition made chance after chance and should have been out of sight, thereafter the officials conspired to deny Tottenham any chance of getting a result. After the game he talked of City as being the best team in the world, champions elect and virtually unbeatable, since then Chelsea have put them firmly in their place with a 1-0 win at the Etihad, a result which was far more comfortable than the scoreline actually suggests, then yesterday lowly Norwich, who had been humiliated 7-0 in the corresponding fixture, held them to a goalless draw and had a couple of late chances to win it. BOTH teams used defensive midfielders and just the one up front.

Tottenham v Palace Review 12

Posted on January 12, 2014 by Tony

Tim Sherwood maintains his unbeaten run in the Premiership and with thirteen points from a possible fifteen some might think he he finds it all rather easy. The truth is that I doubt any of us really know just yet how successful or able he is or will become, the luck was with him yesterday as Palace tormented his team in the first half, missed a penalty and could quite easily have scored a couple more, the fact that he turned things around in the second half is hopefully testament to his ability to motivate the team and we move on to the next game.

United trashed again, Arsenal your next the 5000 are coming. 16

Before we even get into the football side of the game and the job Tim Sherwood is doing let’s first acknowledge the wonderful away support that Tottenham have, from the off all I could hear on the box were the Spurs fans singing and encouraging our boys and they kept it going to the very end, no wonder Arsenal are so concerned about giving Tottenham their full allocation of tickets for next week, nevertheless the 5000 that will be allowed will give a great account of themselves against the 65000 of Arsenal at the library.

Tromso v Tottenham, So meaningless and yet so important. 6

Posted on November 28, 2013 by Eddie S

Tottenham take on Tromso tonight in what should really be a meaningless fixture in the fifth game of the Europe league group stage, but because of Sunday’s horror show at Manchester City it has taken on extra significance. AVB especially and some of his players including record signing Roberto Soldado have borne the brunt of all the bad feeling from the media and a section of unhappy Tottenham supporters.
