As confidence returns so too Tottenham ambition. 1

Following an average performance at home to Crystal Palace followed by defeat at Besiktas that left the likelihood of a disastrous draw in the knockout stages of the Europa League, there was a  feeling of doom and gloom from the media(no surprise there), but also from some of the supporters of Tottenham. Despite Pochettino only having been in the job for a matter of weeks, the season began on the 16th August, that’s 4 months or 17 weeks or 120 days, whichever way you look at it no time at all, there were some actually already calling for his head and actually wishing we had stuck with Tim Sherwood!

Will Captains armband come with new contract for Vertonghen? 7

Yet again it is being reported that Jan Vertonghen is close to securing a new deal with Tottenham, he seems very happy with what he has seen so far and has even got over the failed efforts to sign Welbeck before deadline day but seriously it does seem that he will be given a wage increase and that will come with an extended period on his current contract. Most of us probably consider that Hugo Lloris is the most likely candidate to succeed Michael Dawson as club captain, but if Jan Vertonghen has regained his hunger and his form of that first season with us then he will be one of the few players

New Tottenham captain announcement due soon. 0

Once the Tottenham squad return from International duty this week it will be necessary to choose the club captain, Mauricio Pochettino went to great pains to point out that he wished to wait until after the transfer window closed to make the appointment and he also said that it was a matter for the entire squad to have input. Because of the delay many have jumped to the conclusion that one of the new signings was to be appointed with Fazio, being a fellow countryman and the captain of Sevilla, of course he was only appointed their captain in this close season the club having sold last years captain to Barcelona. So who might it be?

Here we go again-Vertonghen and Lamela are off? 0

Just when things begin to quieten down and start to take shape the media come up with ridiculous rumours solely designed to catch attention. Clearly all the recent talk coming from Jan Vertonghen is related to signing a new Tottenham deal with any potential move to Barcelona either a figment of imagination or simply an agents tool to secure a new deal.  Similarly Erik Lamela had an excellent tour to America and Canada and has clearly finally settled and is working toward finding his best form with his fellow countryman in charge guiding him and the squad.

Spurs news, Arsenal honour and Southampton demise. 0

After a successful tour Tottenham return home and will welcome their teammates back from World Cup wind down, the good news, as predicted by JTN a couple of weeks ago, is that Jan Vertonghen seems set to sign a new longterm contract and will probably vie with Hugo Lloris for the captains vacancy if as expected Michael Dawson departs. News of Tottenham transfer targets are diminishing rather than increasing though Pochettino seemed to imply that the club are seeking a couple of players to improve the squad. News about the injury to Chiriches and illnesses of Adebayor and Sandro have not been mentioned of late  but hopefully we shall know something this week.

There has been some interesting news of another honour bestowed upon our illustrious neighbours Arsenal

Barcelona get their man and it isn’t Vertonghen. 13

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of  Jeremy Mathieu the 30 yr old defender from Valencia for a reported 20m euros, that should be the end of all the speculation surrounding our own Jan Vertonghen and will hopefully lead to another of our important players signing a new extended contract. Of course if this does turn out to be the case Tottenham must not relax as they still need to bolster the defence with the acquisition of a right sided central defender to play alongside him once Michael Dawson has signed for Hull.

Another terrible transfer window beckons for Tottenham. 7

If you take any news about Tottenham seriously then other than the new contract signed by Hugo Lloris keeping at the club until the next transfer window is just about as good as it gets. Pick up any newspaper or read any Tottenham associated article and there always seems to be a problem, even the governmental decision that should allow the club to proceed with the new stadium com with a “but”, but the decision made is still subject to appeal. Everyday the situation relating to Tottenham seems to be manipulated

I sense more Tottenham contract announcements. Next up Vertonghen. 7

Just like Sandro might be heading to Napoli or even Zenit for £5m, like Lloris being  targeted by Monaco and PSG and now Jan Vertonghen being the subject of interest from Barcelona and several other clubs according to his agent, perhaps we should be reading “I have 2 years left on my existing contract and if you don’t come up with more money and a longer deal then my value will begin to decrease or I might consider taking up one of these so called offers”

Hugo dismisses Tottenham exit talk. 14

Tottenham’s real star of the season Hugo Lloris has apparently caught the eye of the richest clubs in France with both Monaco and PSG supposedly taking an interest in his services. As usual the press seem to be keen on selling the best that Tottenham have, following the departures of Bale and Modric in the last two seasons our star attractions at the moment include Lloris, Vertonghen and Eriksen, so they are sure to be the players at the  centre of transfer rumours away from the club over the course of the summer.

Some interesting Tottenham rumours of the day. 1

Until the summer there is little point in dedicating a page to rumour surrounding the club but from time to time a bunch of stories reach us that simply must be commented on. Of course most rumour of late has surrounded the possibility of a new Dutch coach arriving to lead the team next season but one interesting development this week has been the possibility of Tim Sherwood being willing to work with the more experienced Louis Van Gaal so as to take over from him at some time in the future, strangely enough it is a situation that many might feel more comfortable with ensuring continuity for the long term. Until the season is over, we know our fate and then the World cup finishes this will just have to sit on the back burner.
