Tottenham latest for 2014. 6

The New Year has only just begun but what have we already learned?

Judging from early reports perhaps the expected arrival of a new left back is not the obvious addition to the squad during this transfer window. There is little doubt that Danny Rose has been a massive loss for more than three months, if he has not yet firmly established his place in the starting lineup then he is surely very close to doing so and it seems that Zeki Fryers might yet be the one to be his back up. Tottenham have for too long had to rely upon Jan Vertonghen to step in and cover for Rose with the result being that our best central defender has been sacrificed. There have been numerous rumours surrounding a replacement for Rose  rather than back up which is really rather surprising. Where once another left back was a possibility Tim Sherwood seems set to put his trust in Fryers if the need arises.

What’s all the fuss, Torres deserved his 2 yellows and another red. 21

Jose Mourinho is again trying to manipulate the media in England just like he did all those years ago during his first spell with Chelsea, during his time at Real Madrid he tried to use the press to divert attention away from his own poor decisions, unrest in the camp and lack of success. Chelsea have started the season poorly by their standards, the worst start in fact of the Abramovitch era, worse still apart from the first half against Hull performances have been poor.

For the first time in a long time everybody is talking about Tottenham, not as an attractive team capable of challenging for a top four position, nor as a team capable of winning the FA Cup or League Cup, we have entered a new era as more and more are coming around to the fact that Tottenham might just be on the verge of even greater success.

Arsene Wenger, most of his staff and virtually every supporter of the club must be very well aware of the type of players needed and the specific positions that they play that requires major improvement. You only have to listen and read the moans and groans of most supporters to be aware but still Wenger simply goes about papering over the cracks on the cheap rather than pay for a professional job.

He seems to have been on the scene for years but is still only 21 yrs of age and has been a first team regular for Ajax since 2010. He has scored 25 goals in 112 appearances and provided even more assists. At such a tender age he has already won titles and been a regular performer in the Champions League, on one occasion destroying Manchester United if memory serves me.

Looking like Vertonghen deal is almost done. 0

It’s looking like the long awaited and drawn out saga of Jan Vertonghen joining Tottenham is finally about to reach conclusion.

It is reported that further talks have taken place problems look likely to have been resolved, sufficiently at least, and he will become the next signing for Villas=Boas.

Whilst other high profile clubs have been interested in his services he only seemed to have eyes for Spurs and it was just a matter of time.Of course until he signs anything can yet happen, who could resist a million a month from Chelsea or City for example ,but probably no surprises here.
