Time to get the Tottenham show back on the road.

We are all heartily sick of the pantomime surrounding the pursuit of Tottenham’s very own superstar by the continuously underachieving Spanish club, while the ridiculous stories will grow ever more outrageous and the fee grow far beyond the existing record, Tottenham must continue to go about creating the squad needed to increase the points total achieved last season and qualify for the Champions League, that will be the main objective but the squad is now improving to such an extent that a trophy is now a genuine target.

It seems that Levy and Valencia have now agreed a transfer fee for Roberto Soldado that satisfies their demands, something close to £26m it seems  and it is now just a matter of agreeing terms with the player and completing a medical before announcing another fantastic addition to the squad.

A common comment among pundits and experts is that teams and especially those at the top will spend to improve their team and squad for the coming season, failure to do so they tell us allows clubs to close the gap and put pressure on them, so far in this transfer window only three of the top five have actually spent money and improved their squad, Manchester City have spent close to £100m so far and despite the huge loss of Carlos Tevez would now seem to have a far stronger squad. Chelsea are another to have spent a large sum and there will almost certainly be at least one other, which might yet be Wayne Rooney.

Tottenham should they complete the signing of Soldado will become the other big spenders so far with an outlay of £50m or so, before it is suggested that it is the proceeds from the expected sale of Gareth Bale  it should be mentioned that the extra TV revenue is now due and that brings in approximately £60m more.

There is little doubt that AVB has a far better squad of players to choose from and if spending money and bringing in more quality players is the way to progress then Tottenham are heading in the right direction, the teams failing to improve their squad so far with new additions are of course United and Arsenal, there is time but good players and particularly available players are running out, will failure to improve cost them over the course of the season, only time will tell.
