Title chase-Little Horses, Chihuahas and then there’s those damn mosquitoes.

Posted on February 13, 2014 by Random Spurs Supporter

Mourinho has described Chelsea as the little horses in the title race up against the might of Manchester City, the mind games have begun as he tries to get under the skin of the City coach following their unexpected victory at the Etihad, his plan looked to be going very well as Chelsea hit the summit and they had the chance to extend that lead on Tuesday before City and Arsenal played on Wednesday.  Unfortunately West Bromwich had other ideas and put in a performance that eventually earned them a deserved point in their battle against relegation. Mourinho was rocked and hopefully will remain speechless for a while at least, his gloating interviews of late have begun to grate a little even though it is good to see him back in the Premier League.

Not wishing to be left out Brendan Rodgers had obviously prepared his script for the obvious questions aimed at his Liverpool teams hopes of mounting a title challenge, as the little pony had been taken he went for a small dog, the Chichuaha and being just four points behind Chelsea he has a fair claim to being possible title winners, he has not been slow to talk up the possibility this season particularly in December when they briefly led the table, invariably a fall soon followed.

Tottenham are just three points further back and are not even considering talking of themselves as title contenders, outsiders for a top four position with every chance of claiming fourth is the best that will be heard from anyone in the camp. If Sherwood could best describe his Tottenham team in similar context then it would have to be mosquitoes,

Come On you Spurs.

Come On you Spurs.

you can’t see them coming but they are still there, buzzing around and refusing to go away, considered by most of the teams ahead of them as being a minor irritant but ignoring the fact that you ignore them at your peril. Let’s hope that before this season is over we get under the skin of all the teams ahead of us and simply go for it, none of us are really expecting too much after the traumas of the past few months and there is nothing to really lose.

Tottenham have choices in almost every position and by the time we travel to Norwich another important player, Sandro, will have recovered from injury, we have lost Chiriches for up to five more weeks but Kaboul is back in his place and that leaves only Lamela on the injured list. City have lost Aguero and have shown weaknesses without him, they are also heavily dependant on Kompany and Toure, similarly Arsenal have no real options to Giroud as a striker and Flamini as a defensive midfielder.

In a season of true transition following the loss of Gareth Bale, the introduction of seven new players from six different leagues across the world and a change to the coaching team mid season anything in the top six should be considered a success but there is a real possibility that a Champions League spot might still be achievable simply because of the quality in this Tottenham squad, the spine of the team is now as good as any in the division, probably better than all but a couple, yesterday it was Lloris, Vertonghen, Capoue with Adebayor leading the line and there are others such as Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Soldado amongst plenty of others ensuring continuity and options.

The team haven’t always performed well under Sherwood, in fact rarely so, but yesterday’s performance and the string of results and points won so far does bode well for the rest of the season, as a coach he has adapted his methods and the team it seems is starting to evolve, if this momentum can be maintained then we might yet surprise one or two before the season is out.

Know what you mean about mou.his voice is so irritating. He peed me off when gloating about pinching Willian forgetting to say he joined for the money and not the team. Liverpool haven’t the team or the squad to see it thru, 4th at best for them.
