Today’s Tottenham round-up.

Posted on October 03, 2013 by Scraggs

Today’s main concern is obviously all about winning the Europa Cup fixture against Anzhi and AVB has taken an exceptionally strong squad with him to Russia. Paulinho and Jan Vertonghen were the most notable non travellers for no other reason than to give them some much needed rest and relaxation. The squad have taken this opportunity to further increase bonding and team spirit with some sight seeing for the group in between preparing for an important game.

The squad that has travelled is packed full of quality, AVB will be able to choose an incredibly strong starting lineup and fill his bench with players able to make the defference if needed. It is particularly pleasing to see that Younes Kaboul has recovered from his minor problem and should perhaps start. These are the players from which AVB must make his choice : Lloris, Friedel, Walker, Naughton, Fryers, Chiriches, Archer, Dawson, Kaboul, Sandro, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Holtby, Lamela, Eriksen, Townsend, Chadli, Soldado, Kane, Defoe.

Tottenham are being strongly linked with a move for the Zenit left back Domenico Criscito, he joined them for close to £14m in 2011 but has made only 36 appearances in two complete seasons and just six minutes of eleven games played this season. Whether the amount of games played is down to form or fitness he certainly does not seem a good fit for this Tottenham squad, more a case of the player and agent needing to orchestrate a move to a club searching for another left back.

Another player that Tottenham were allegedly linked with over the summer was the young striker Neilton of Santos, has apparently been unable to agree terms on a new contract which has alerted clubs in Europe, Sevilla have apparently already made their move but a token bid was turned down. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham do in fact pursue this player, if he truly is a potential star of the future you would expect that Franco Baldini will know all there is to know and be moving to secure his services for Tottenham. Possibly one to watch.

Many seem to be concentrating on AVB’s “rage” at Torres managing to escape further punishment for his attack on Jan Vertonghen, hardly rage of course more like a well thought out response to a situation fudged over by the footballing authorities in England, it is perhaps karma that Torres should pick up an injury that will keep him out of action for at least three weeks.

Now looking forward to the game tonight which is an early kick-off, 1700 UK time, just in case some of you overlooked the fact.
