Tom Carroll will save Tottenham £20m.

Posted on July 12, 2013 by Scraggs

We continuously hear of Tottenham’s need for a playmaker in the mould of Luka Modric, as a result there have been links to Moutinho, now at Monaco, Pjanic  who has a price on his head of something in the region of £20m and today we are again linked with Eriksen, he is in the last year of his contract but is still apparently worth £15m or so.

After the sale of Modric there was a period when a replacement might have been high on the agenda, but slowly and after a few months the squad began to cope and there was of course a record points total come the end of the season. Noticeable was the fact that Tom Carroll was never loaned out to another club to gain experience, he was retained by AVB and was allowed valuable playing time and the opportunity to learn from within the main squad.

He did not often start important matches, other than perhaps in Europe, but was often introduced from the bench, particularly when something different was required. Carroll is a great hope for Tottenham supporters as one of the latest group that could make it through the ranks, AVB seems to see something that he likes and even the player himself seems to be growing in confidence and talking of his high hopes for the coming season.

Even once a few of the older stalwarts have left, that would seem to include Huddlestone and Parker, perhaps even another of our own Jake Livermore, AVB will still be left with a fantastic array of midfielders, Tom Carroll won’t start in every game of course, but it is a fair bet that he will improve on last seasons number of appearances as he is allowed to grow into the creative midfield position that he will hopefully one day make his own.

Playmaker, I think AVB believes he has a potential gem in his midst and will use the monies saved in other areas.

I agree. I think having that creative edge in the midfield is vital for any link play. We have Carroll, Holtby, Siggy, and all of which have good control and a niche for placing well placed forward passes or through balls to the front line. Giving Carroll more playing time and a descent pre-season look will be beneficial for this upcoming season.

Carroll will definitely get more time and with Lewis and Gylfi in the mix he has three players all providing different options in their game. Exciting times.
