Tottenham bound Paulinho scores again.

Posted on June 27, 2013 by Tony

Not a great Brazilian performance up against a feisty Uruguayan team who gave their all for the cause, again they came through the tie and whilst Neymar will be credited with both assists his first was brought about by a tremendous chip into the box from Paulinho, obviously Neymar still had much to do and he did it incredibly well to create the opening and scuffed effort from Fred.

The second and decisive goal came from a corner taken by Neymar who has without doubt been the player of the tournament so far, at the far post Paulinho rose highest to power home a header for his second goal of the tournament having missed the last outing due to injury.

Paulinho has been perceived as a defensive midfielder but with a career goal record of one every four games he is certainly much more than a defensive minded player. During the course of this tournament, as much as he works incredibly hard for the cause, Hulk is doing himself no favours, particularly for any team looking for a real goalscorer, if memory serves me he has been the player brought off in every game so far and has rarely troubled the opposition defenses. With a fee for his services reputed to be in the region of £40m it is doubtful whether there will be any takers this summer.

Almost daily threats appear of Chelsea and Real Madrid interest in Paulinho, if confirmed then it is likely that both will turn his head with outrageous wages and promises that neither can keep, both clubs have a ridiculous complement of midfielders and it will already be difficult to keep them all happy over the course of the season, some will not play as often as they would wish as Modric found at Madrid last season, this season it seems that they must find room for another midfielder already, Isco it seems is soon to join at substantial cost.

It is almost certainly just paper talk for reaction and he will soon sign for Tottenham.

Maybe just its all smoke & mirrors from Paulino .
Where’s the official source ……there’s not one.
The buy out price €20m is nothing to many top clubs in Champs League .
    We can’t even offer that.
Regardless of counting who’s to the most midfielders,
In the end its who’s going to pay the best wage ….he’s just racking it up a bit.
So best not to get our hopes up .

Have to agree, expect him to sign but until he does take nothing for granted. Oscar last year springs to mind. Champs league is not the be all as Falcao, Moutinho and Rodriguez have proved by going to Monaco, money counts more.
