Tottenham injury list down to one.

Posted on January 24, 2014 by Guest Writer

Last week Andros Townsend and Lewis Holtby saw action following injury and made their comeback in an U21 fixture against Newcastle, by now we are probably all aware that both came through unscathed and are now available for selection for upcoming fixtures. Now there has been even more excellent news as Jan Vertonghen, Paulinho, Sandro and Younes Kaboul took part in a behind closed doors friendly against West Ham which resulted in a comfortable 3-0 victory and Tim Sherwood has confirmed that they all came through unscathed.

These are the players that took part in the game Spurs: Friedel; Naughton (A McQueen, 75), Kaboul (Gallifuoco, 60), Vertonghen (Stewart, 60), Fryers; Capoue, Paulinho (Ward, 60), Sandro (Veljkovic, 46); Holtby (Couleybaly, 75), Kane, Sigurdsson, an impressive lineup when added to the remainder of the squad, goals came from Paulinho and a brace from Harry Kane and all three were assisted by Lewis Holtby

It’s almost a week before the next game against Manchester City but as things stand only one player still remains on the injury list and that is Erik Lamela who is expected to be available for selection by the beginning of next month. with just sixteen fixtures remaining and involvement in europe at long last Sherwood probably feels that he has the squad fit and well enough to challenge on both fronts irrespective of what happens in this transfer window both in or out.

With just one of his squad still on the injured list Sherwood’s most difficult job will now be to decide which system to use in the fixtures coming up and which players to choose to do the job. Suddenly Tottenham supporters have regained their enthusiasm for the season, results, performances and just as importantly Sherwood’ s willingness to modify tactics has raised expectation, add to that the return to fitness of three or four exceptional players expected to form part of a first choice eleven and just maybe this season will turn out special.

Listening to most so called “experts” the battle for the final top four position is between Liverpool and Manchester United now that Mata looks set to join them, of course there is little to choose between the two of them, Tottenham, Everton and even Newcastle and the battle is well and truly on. Based on current form and comparing the squads of each club Tottenham have every chance, if Roberto Soldado can find his form then I could even be convinced to invest a pound or two on Tottenham finishing in the top four or possibly even a little higher.

The best news i’ve had in days. Made my afternoon coffee taste even better.

Let us not worry about the so called experts. They have their views and nobody will ever change that. The best antidote will be to ram their bias views down their throat at the end of the season by continue this progression and finish in the top four. {They are most likely to say that it was a fluke even if that occurs!)

  2. Boobaspur says:

I’ve been reading on TalkSport that the 4th and final Champions League is between Spurs and Pool, based off of remaining fixtures and available squad.

Spurs have a few nasty fixtures coming up close together but have the squad to get favourable results.

It is history and expectations management that leaves me reluctant to expect we will get that 4th valuable spot, but what wonderful news to have basically our entire group of players back.

Great that Holtby got those 3 assists – I hope we can continue to see his worth in the first team. I think his work-rate is excellent.

  3. Eric says:

Holtby is much better than Carroll so I hope better sense prevails and we choose them on the basis of their talent rather than nationality or knowing someone better

    • Tony says:

Have to agree that Holtby seems to be improving with every outing lately and no matter what he gives 100% everytime he pulls on the shirt. don’t think we should be giving up on him just yet.
