Tottenham miss out on Villa shock.

Posted on July 08, 2013 by Scraggs

Well none of us really saw that one coming as Barcelona have announced that terms have been agree with Atletico Madrid for the services of David Villa, the fee is understood to have been set at 5.1m euros and nothing like the 15m that was the declared fee demanded of Tottenham. Apparently this fee is only payable in full on completion of the full 3 years of his contract and Barcelona will receive 50% of any future sale.

I don’t know about you but nothing rings anything like true in this story at all especially the fee, it appears that Villa has yet to agree terms and sign but if he really does demand Champions League football it is probably all but sealed.

Many will jump on the mean Daniel Levy bandwagon but it does seem that particularly with the French and Spanish clubs that do try to rip off the English Premier league clubs when it comes to buying their players , when the boot is on the other foot they try to negotiate reduced prices as was the case with Modric and Fabregas.

Following this bombshell it is becoming a little worrying as to just who is left available and might be signed by Tottenham this summer, Negredo seems bound for Manchester City, Mario Gomez to Fiorentina, Damiao, who I doubt Tottenham actually wanted this time around, seems set for Napoli or even Southampton, Lewandowski to Bayern if not this summer then next.

Soldado is perhaps the only possible option or perhaps Benteke but in either case their respective clubs will have Tottenham over a barrel knowing their need to add firepower. I don’t think anybody really saw this happening, Suarez or Higuain anybody?

Well, Athletico offers CL and this is WC year, simple choice for Villa to stay in Spanish team. I would say we should go for Lewandowski, Dortmund has signed another attacker and will not be fools to lose Lewa for free next year, he is anyway Polish top choice, so he might not bother for CL. But then, Chelsea is in hunt too as they are short of 1 top striker in their transfer plans. For a second striker, we can afford to buy some good youngster. Benteke is not a clear option, he is Arsenal fan, and he is not a finished article and if he becomes a first choice transfer, we will need a good back up too

just hope for Soldado he is the best option and probably fits the bill with a specialist left sided attacker like Bernard, Chadli or Jese.
