Tottenham pile pressure on Arsenal,at last.

Posted on May 12, 2013 by Guest Writer

Another heart in mouth experience and when it seemed that Tottenham would pass up another opportunity to finally impose some sort of pressure on Arsenal, up popped Adebayor with the goal that retains hope of Champions League football and a finish above our near neighbours come the final game of the season next weekend.

We know that Arsenal still have the advantage in terms of a 100% finish will do the job for them but at long last after an age of trying Tottenham have gone about getting a result which at least turns the screw on them. Arsenal will go into their final 2 fixtures against teams needing a result to save themselves and so will face an enormous battle. It might be that the final fixture away to Newcastle will mean nothing to the home team if Arsenal end the agony of Wigan on Tuesday but a relaxed team might find themselves able to turn on the style in front of their own fans to sign off after what has been a disastrous season for them.

Whatever happens Arsenal now know that they face two fixtures which they must win as surely Tottenham will not slip up at home to Sunderland! A Tottenham win next week will leave Arsenal no room for mistakes and the pressure is now firmly on them. Whatever happens now we go into the final week of the season with a chance and for that we are thankful.

AVB and this team have finally found the ability to cope with pressure, today there was no panic and as has happened so often lately a goal in the final ten minutes made all the difference, the team continued to pass and move to the very end and ramped up the pressure on the Stoke rearguard, at one point Tottenham enjoyed 85% possesion as they wore them down, team selection worked again and changes made the difference which is becoming a good habit.

It would obviously be a huge disappointment to fail having come so close once again but had the team not won today and given themselves the best chance possible it would have been much harder to take. Every impartial football supporter was rooting for Wigan yesterday and it will probably be the same on Tuesday, win and they have everything to play for in the final fixture against Villa and most would argue that they do not deserve relegation as they play the game the right way,
