Tottenham set to sign David Villa.Still a class act.(Video reminder)

Posted on June 24, 2013 by Tony

It certainly seems that David Villa is heading to Tottenham as another piece in the drive to qualify for the Champions League next season, but by shelling out the type of money needed to bring a player of his quality to the Lane it seems that AVB and everybody associated with the club are also aiming for much more than that. Villa has been one of the great forwards and goalscorers of recent times and was signed by the greatest team on the planet Barcelona, he will be 32yrs of age soon after the beginning of the season and so might only be expected to have a couple more years at the very top, if Tottenham do conclude the deal as seems likely the message sent is that they are aiming for the title.
With 338 goals in 666 games he has maintained a goal every other game throughout his career and even at International level, some will argue that he has not had the best of times at Barcelona but despite a serious injury has still managed 48 goals and 17 assists in 116 fixtures.
On the face of it Villa is not normally the type of purchase that would be expected of Daniel Levy until you think of  William Gallas, an inspired signing and a total success, a couple of years ago he splashed out something like £6m on Scott Parker another fantastic servant and an instant success, he was another instrumental in pushing Tottenham to 4th in his first season and a record points total in his second season.
At this stage it seems that Tottenham are in the driving seat to bring to the club two great players in Paulinho and Villa, neither are definite until signed and sealed but even so imagining what could be the starting eleven for the first fixture of the season is becoming an exciting prospect, almost certainly another player or even two might yet join depending on which players actually leave.

Some at JTN have been and might still remain a little sceptical as to whether Villa is the man to score the goals needed, well take a look at the goals scored while with Barcelona and you will realise that provided he remains fit he is a goal machine and will thrive on the service that will be provided by a fast raiding powerful Tottenham team.
