Tottenham set to spend big this summer.

Tottenham are generally considered to be one of the clubs closing the gap on the biggest and wealthiest clubs in the land and before the season is over it is hoped that they will have surpassed one or two of them. Last summer was a period of confusion in that Harry Redknapp had been sacked and AVB appointed followed by a number of close associates and backroom staff to replace some of the old guard. This all happened, and the changes rung, based upon what the powers that be of Tottenham hoped AVB and his team would bring to the club rather than what could be expected with any sort of certainty.

On the playing front there were other problems that needed resolving like the little matter of the ungrateful Luka Modric wishing to take his place on the Real Madrid bench and watch the team lose their league title to Barcelona before almost certainly falling to Germany’s second best team in the European Cup. Ledley King needed replacing, not an easy task, before Van de Vaart wanted away. AVB and the club had to overcome all of these problems as well as find a couple of forwards to supplement Jermain Defoe.

In came Jan Vertonghen and Moussa Dembele, both massive successes for Tottenham,  Clint Dempsey, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Adebayor also arrived leaving just enough time  to bring in Hugo Lloris  who will,  in my opinion, go on to become one of the great keepers of his generation.Already Tottenham had some great performers like Walker, Bale, Lennon, Kaboul and Sandro and once the team gelled and adapted to the new coach some fantastic results and consistency followed.

As we reach the final few games of the season Tottenham still have every chance of finishing in the top four but whatever happens the club are ready to go again in the next transfer window. We hope and expect Gareth Bale to stay and for Daniel Levy and the club to really go for broke and support AVB, there will be the need for a couple of outstanding forwards, wing backup at long last for Aaron Lennon ( Andros Townsend might be now be considered to be ready following his success with QPR) and judging from team selection a new left back .

It would seem likely that Tottenham might be prepared to sell on perhaps four or five players this summer, Benni seems to be a target for a couple of clubs and seems to have a price tag of about £11m, Danny Rose is reported to be wanted by Sunderland for £8m and there will be others as well that will likely bring in a further £10 to £15m. With over £30m available from sales together with the extra monies from TV and other generated income Tottenham should have a substantial amount to spend, maybe even more if Champions League football can be achieved.

Will Tottenham also bring in that special midfielder like Moutinho, maybe, but with the likes of Tom Carrol coming through and the acquisition of Holtby and Sigurdsson who all are best suited to a central role probably not. Expect Tottenham to flash the cash to enable AVB to really push on but on forwards and a quality leftback, only if a couple of midfielders are released might another come in to supplement this position.
