Tottenham squad now earning their spurs.

It is now that the depth and quality of the Tottenham squad is showing it’s worth, imagine the Tottenham teams of the past few years without four of their defenders, for the weekend Vertonghen, Rose, Kaboul and Chiriches were unavailable and yet the entire squad was used to find a way to earn the three points at Sunderland, Eriksen the new playmaker brought in at great expense also out and still the midfield chosen dominated proceedings and AVB even found time to rest Sandro and manage his recovery from injury.

Capoue, Lennon and Chadli have all had lengthy spells out but Townsend,Sigurdsson and Lamela have filled the gaps admirably ensuring Tottenham are still in the hunt for every tournament going into December. When the season started Holtby, Sandro and Kaboul were still on the injured list and their return has been handled carefully.

I have lost count of the times it has been said that AVB should just pick his first team and stick to it but when you consider that the past two seasons have ended in failure because the players were either injured or exhausted as the season approached it’s conclusion. AVB has a huge squad of talented players and he has managed to handle things extremely well so far, it is fair to say that the entire group of senior professionals have seen plenty of action across all competitions and, other than those returning from injury, are match fit which is vital to performance.

As a group the players are all fully committed to the cause and in particular the coach, despite what has been written at times, the strength in depth that Tottenham now possess within the squad has enabled them to send out very strong teams, no matter what the opposition or competition, and the benefits can be seen as progression has been made on all fronts so far. As a paying customer surely it has been great to see the stars feature in the cups rather than see too many of the youngsters and fringe players as in the Redknapp years, then the cup competitions were traded for points and the sole pursuit of a top four position, as important as that is supporters were crying out for some sort of success and one appearance in the Champions League has not been much to show for a period when the team possessed some outstanding individuals.(Bale, Modric,VDV, King and others)

Only time will tell whether the squad and AVB can achieve success this season but at the moment despite team performances yet to hit the heights and with plenty more to come the signs are good.
