Tottenham still busy in the transfer market.

We know that nothing is certain until the official announcements are made but if reports are to be believed a few completed deals might soon be on the horizon.

First up is Etienne Capoue who was called up by the French squad as a Toulouse player and joined up with them as a Tottenham player it seems. Search his details on Wikipedia and he is classed aTottenham player who joined them in August, whilst not totally conclusive it is a fair enough assumption to consider that the transfer has finally been resolved satisfactorily.

Scott Parker was involved in many of the early pre season friendlies but on Saturday in the final run out he was nowhere to be seen, Paulinho was ready to take his place and Sandro also took to the field to continue his recovery and prepare to regain a spot in midfield. If Capoue has also completed his move then clearly Parker has no future at Tottenham and he needs to seek regular involvement elsewhere. He will be 33yrs of age in October and has been a great competitor in his time with Tottenham, unfortunately time has caught up with him and AVB is looking for younger more dynamic players to fill that gap. Sky seem to believe that his transfer to QPR has almost been completed and an announcement is due soon.

The other big Tottenham transfer relates to a player with whom the club were linked a few weeks back, soon after Baldini was appointed 17yr old Croatian Alen Halilovic seemed set to join only for the deal to fall through supposedly because of a failure to agree terms with the youngsters father. It now seems that the transfer is back on and a fee of about £12m has been agreed. the player will remain with his current club until next summer which will afford him the opportunity to continue his development playing in the senior team. Obviously he is one for the future but hopefully will be the first of a number of young players to join who promise huge potential and great things for the future.

Clint Dempsey has gone and now it seems Scott Parker will soon follow, William Gallas left a few weeks earlier and so the average age of the squad will be significantly reduced, not only that but along with David Bentley close to £15m will have been removed from the annual wage bill.

With the Gareth Bale situation still to play out it is certainly going to become one of the most interesting and important transfer windows in recent history. I did at one point believe that the transfer had been agreed and only the official announcement was being delayed to allow Levy to secure his transfer targets, not so, as the season is about to start and both camps are in limbo awaiting the final outcome. I am now beginning to believe that Madrid cannot or will not meet the demands of Tottenham and there is a chance that he will remain for another season. Fortunately AVB has never lost the admiration of the player or the squad and if forced to remain Bale can be counted on to do his stuff. Levy has his own job to carry out and being liked by the players is not on the agenda, he did not care that Modric might have disliked him when he refused Chelsea’s attempts to sign him and he will not care that he might upset Bale and Barnett, his job is to do his best for the club and at the moment he is playing an absolute blinder. Two record buys and Bale still a Tottenham player so with three weeks to go of “Levy time” there is everything to play for.
