Tottenham team to face Fulham

Posted on December 04, 2013 by Eddie S

Tottenham have gone four games without a win but the pressure has been lifted a little from the club after Sunday’s performance, two draws and two defeats have resulted in all sorts of accusations being aimed AVB’s way. Following his criticism on Sunday they will all be lying in wait looking for their opportunity to hit back and you almost believe that they hope that Tottenham fail against Fulham this evening.

Tottenham now need to put together a really exceptional run of results as only then can AVB’s reputation start to be repaired and the media put in their place. After a good performance on Sunday there is unlikely to be much change particularly as we have been informed that Danny Rose is still not ready, the good news on that front is though that he might be ready for the weekend fixture against Sunderland.

This Fulham team are no Manchester United and have lost their last five games but they do have home advantage and a new coach following Jol’s sacking and that makes them dangerous. I think it’s pretty certain that there will not be many changes although AVB will continue to use his squad and much will depend upon how those returning from injury are managed. Might Tottenham start with an even more offensive lineup? AVB hinted that he might even consider two up front for this game in an effort to kickstart Roberto Soldado’s goal scoring form but I just can’t see it happening.

We can only hope that Sandro has now fully recovered from his injury hell but it has been reported that his fitness still has to be carefully managed, for that reason and because he is once again proving himself to be indispensable this might be the opportunity to bring in Capoue and build up his match fitness , similarly Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend might switch roles for the same reason of managing Lennon’s injury. Nacer Chadli has played in two consecutive matches and perhaps this is the time for Sigurdsson to return on the left.

The Tottenham squad is so deep that there is absolutely no need to jeopardise the fitness of any of the players or overplay them, but this is a big game and three points and the chance to get Tottenham back on track is essential.

  1. Eric says:

The only way we get the top 4 is by winning our next 3 games which is realistically possible

  2. Boobaspur says:

With no disrespect to Fulham, tonight is as simple as a “must win”.

Anything else and big questions will be asked.

This is the forum (on the pitch, not here literally), where AVB gets to do “his” talking and his players get to show their backing, as do the fans with their noisy support.

    No pressure then…

    • Tony says:

Now is the time and as you say there is no more time for excuses. As Kevin Keegan would say “I would love it” if Soldado started a rich vein of goalscoring form tonight and it all clicked into place. Even if we achieved average conversion rate from shots to goals we would be flying high, perhaps a bit of luck in that respect would not go amiss.

  3. Boobaspur says:

I really don’t think Fulham can be considered dangerous – they have been shockingly bad recently and nothing much I have seen of them has hinted we should be worried.

Again – this is no disrespect to Fulham, but if Spurs are to start thinking of themselves as a serious side then we should be winning this scoring 3 or more tonight.

I would like to see two up front. If Soldado really does need to play with a partner striker and AVB is so intent on just 1 up front as a default, then there appears to be a breakdown in communication somewhere.

I hope tonight we can start to restore some proper faith with goals and points and keep mistakes to a minimum.

    • Tony says:

If they are to play with 2 up front one of them has to be Adebayor as soldado and Defoe will just get in each others way, has to be a big lump alongside if it happens. i would prefer to see Lamela in the VDV role in 4 4 1 1 as and when he is ready

    • lou says:

must start quickly and put the pressure straight onto the opposition, no more time to gel it has got to start happening now or simply start more of last years group.
