Tottenham transfer rumours hotting up.

Posted on January 17, 2014 by Guest Writer

Seventeen days into the January transfer window and with just fourteen days remaining, the transfer rumours continue unabated. For most of the month the focus has been upon selling the squad built at massive expense over the past couple of summers by using money generated from the sales of Modric and Bale to Madrid. Already we are hearing that some of the proposed outgoing players might not actually be going anywhere and some other proposed moves are not sensible fits. Today let’s take a look at some of the deals that have been mentioned in the past few days:-

Let’s start with Kyle Naughton’s proposed move to Villa, obviously he is behind Kyle Walker in the pecking order but he has featured in plenty of games already this season many of them as a stand in at left back. given a good run in the team he would obviously improve and he would be a regular starter in most other teams. he is probably not content but today’s news that the youngster Ryan Fredericks is going out on loan to Millwall almost certainly ensures that he goes nowhere until the summer at least.

Steven Defour of Porto is delaying a decision on his future club as he is apparently holding out hope that Tottenham might want him, as a midfielder struggling to win a place in the Porto team and at a time when Tottenham appear to be keen to loan or sell some of their current crop of midfielders a definite no go.

Rumours of Vucinic coming to Tottenham as part of a deal for Erik Lamela seem to have been put to bed but now another Juventus player struggling to make an impact this season seems to be a potential target. Quagliarella, another 30 year old surplus to requirements and with one goal in 13 appearances this season is the potential replacement for Jermain Defoe, really, I don’t thinks so and a non starter.

Salamon Kalou currently of Lille was allowed to leave for free by Chelsea in the summer of 2012 and has done remarkably well, he still has plenty of years ahead of him as surprisingly he is still only 28 yrs old. With 22 goals and 8 assists in just 57 games whilst with Lille, he is described as a striker but he was always a leftsided player in the 4 3 3 system that Chelsea preferred. He has plenty of Premiership experience and would be a decent buy in other circumstances but probably doesn’t fit Sherwood’s vision nor the preferred formation

. The three most likely midfield exits Chadli, Holtby and Capoue have all been the subject of mixed reports, Nacer Chadli has contradicted his agents comments by declaring that he wants to stay, Lewis Holtby is no longer a sure thing to leave for Schalke as Daniel Levy does not want his loan/sale to open door for Arsenal to buy Draxler and there has even been second thoughts on the situation regarding Capoue it seems! Or is it simply to drive up the price? I suppose most Tottenham supporters see Sandro as the best defensive midfield player at the club and provided he has fully recovered from his serious injury then allied to the incredible breakthrough by Bentaleb it might be felt that his sale can be sanctioned for the right price.

As yet there have been no rumours of a new left back arriving at the club and that must mean that Tim Sherwood is banking on Zeki Fryers stepping up as cover for Danny Rose, let’s hope given the trust he steps up to the plate if needed.

With Tim in charge don’t expect much incomings, first cause levy will get an experienced coach in the summer and secondly he seems to be keen on his academy lads

Whatever! in terms of transfers to our team this January. I do not understand what is going on! So I have decided just to wait and see what happens. That is if anything happens. Why should we even contemplate selling Holtby is beyond me. It should not take the fact that selling him to Schalke will strengthen the Woolwich gooners with that lot buying Drexler to bring Mr Levy to his senses that it will be a terrible error of judgement. The football world is yearning for this type of no. 10 players. We are lucky to have one that I have no doubt will be one of the best players in that position in a few years time, and what does a Spurs want yo do? selll him. It is an irresponsible action and lack of foresight in my view.

If there is one player Spurs do not need at WHL it is Salomon Kalou. C’mon, we can do better than that. Not a Chelsea reject! I will rather have a good striker from the Championship that Kalou. They will be better value for money. After PSG, there are not a lot of strong teams in the French League. Even Monaco is not doing that well. So Kalou did flourish and score some goals. If he was that good, why did Chelsea let him go for free?

what I can’t understand is why Sherwood is involved with deciding players in and players out and yet it seems that AVB was not. Don’t get me wrong I believe the coach should choose the players and the DOF goes and gets them if he can. Why untried Sherwood and not experienced predecessor making the decisions seems a little strange!
Take your point, gooners supposedly in for £40m players and Spurs scratching around for bargains and players surplus to requirements or over the hill.
The rags seem to think Spurs are a busted flush but look at the squad and they are far from that, a couple of shrewd additions a couple out and anything is still possible but fear Levy has parked the bus until this season has played out. there is no doubt in my mind AVB told him to stick his job because he was ignored and his methods interfered with leaving him with no back up plan.

You can’t buy heart and holtby plays like his life depends on it! He is full of potential and seems to give it his all on the pitch. Selling him so fast would be foolish..

    • Tony says:

Let’s hope it’s just a loan until the summer but we were always likely to lose players after going out of both domestic cups, 12 midfielders in a 4 man midfield is ridiculous and something needs to give.
