Tottenham transfer rumours of the week.

Posted on May 16, 2013 by Guest Writer

Barcelona’s David Villa has apparently been won over by AVB and has agreed to join Tottenham this coming season, his value is put at £12m and he will be 32 yrs of age come December, this is a player who will demand to be the highest paid at the club, so with a 4yr contract and a substantial fee Tottenham or rather Daniel Levy is going to sanction a spend of something in the region of £35m on a player with no sell on value and a bit of a gamble in a new league following what has been a poor domestic season with the champions of the country. This is a non starter, perhaps as a free transfer for a couple of seasons it could make sense, a little like the William Gallas situation. Absolutely no chance.

Carlo Ancellotti has been promised Gareth Bale if he accepts the job at Real Madrid, unbelievable, a player with a long contract at Tottenham and a wish to continue with the club for the foreseeable future and about to sign a new improved and longer contract. Just what Daniel Levy is thinking  right now is probably upwards of £100m before he would even respond to Madrid. No chance and simply Marca talk.

Tottenham are battling with Everton for the signature of the current Spanish first choice striker and Valencia player Negredo. This is probably a striker that Tottenham should be interested in and might just be, much will probably depend on how Valencia finish the season, if they fail to make the Champions League their financial position could mean Negredo will be sacrificed. Competing with Everton is a little far fetched as currently they do not have a coach and surely until one has been appointed and he has assessed his squad they will not know their targets. Negredo could very well be a player discussed by Tottenham although maybe as 3rd or 4th choice striker option.

Alberto Botia of Sevilla is a 24yr old centre half who learned his trade at Barcelona and who recently earned a call up to the Spanish team. His age fits the bill and he is apparently very pacy for a centre back. Already there have been comments as to just who Tottenham would allow to leave if he signed, William Gallas is out of contract and will obviously be allowed to go and AVB has previously stated that he requires just 4 for the positions, Vertonghen is a certainty and as Botia is predominantly a rightsided and rightfooted player so is Steven Caulker as he is left sided. If Botia is a target then he is surely as a replacement for either Dawson or Kaboul,  AVB was prepared to release Michael Dawson last season and as the eldest of the group, provided Kaboul regains full fitness, will be the most at risk. this is a very believable rumour as Tottenham have conceded far too many goals and Daws lack of pace is an obvious weakness in the Tottenham style and setup. Possible.

Manchester United will offer over £30m and Wayne Rooney for Gareth Bale, it was only a matter of time before they came out with that one, previously it was the offer of players that failed and became unwanted e.g. Nani, Anderson and Young, now because Rooney wants out he is the obvious answer. Let’s see Rooney is on something like £220,000pw, he is the third highest paid footballer in the world and at the peak age of 27yrs we are being led to believe he might join Tottenham who have a ceiling of £100,000pw a figure only just reached.. Wayne Rooney has 2yrs remaining of his last contract and is probably already in discussion over a new deal, he has used the threat of leaving before and he is likely to be using the same method to secure another massive contract. If Rooney leaves it could only be to City or PSG but my guess he will go nowhere and nor will Gareth Bale. This is a rumour with absolutely no legs or chance of ever happening.

Ante Rebic a Croatian forward not 20yrs until September, Tottenham have been rumoured to have made a £6m offer and are apparently favourites to secure his services. Having watched a little of this player in action for his club and up to U21 level for the national team this is hopefully going to happen, he is averaging a goal every 3 games for the RNK Split first team and seems perfectly suited to a 4 3 3 formation. He looks to be a player capable of taking up positions right left and centre but seems to favour the left. Very quick and powerful he seems perfect for the AVB project and would fit exactly the Levy profile of being available at a reasonable price, not the finished article but with massive potential. Likely to happen and hope it does, he could be just what is needed in the squad.

Coming up to the last game of the season and the rumour and speculation is already gathering pace in relation to purchases and sales of players for the forthcoming season, if Tottenham manage to pip Arsenal to the final Champions League spot some rumours will become outrageous but in reality targets and requirements will hardly change as AVB and Daniel Levy will continue to be creative in their targeting of players whatever happens.
