Tottenham v Chelsea a game of two halves ending in a fair result.

Posted on September 28, 2013 by Tony

For much of the first half Tottenham held the upper hand all over the pitch, as we had suggested earlier today Andros Townsend was a thorn in their side as he continuously troubled Ashley Cole but unfortunately Mourinho managed to change things around in the second half to nullify him. Perhaps with a little more luck or decisive finishing the game might have been all over before half time as Paulinho hit the post and but for a great defensive action from Ivanovitch would also have had a tap in for 2-0 a little earlier.

The second half was a totally different game altogether as Mata came on for the ineffective Mikel and Hazard provided more support for Torres who really meant business. for a period Lloris was the busier of the two keepers and the defence was made to work harder and it was perhaps only a matter of time before the equaliser came along.

Once Torres was sent off it was one way traffic once more and Sigurdsson and Defoe came very close to scoring a late winner as the pressure mounted. some might say that Torres was a little unlucky to be shown the second yellow, but he was in a feisty mood all afternoon and was perhaps an accident waiting to happen.

At the end of play a draw was certainly a fair reflection of the game and will ultimately have little effect on the outcome of the season for either club, perhaps Chelsea and Mourinho will feel slightly happier with yet another draw on their travels to a club who will challenge for the title.

Tottenham will probably take from this the belief that they had their chances to win and take all three points, that they failed to do so will simply mean more hard work on the training pitch to build and grow as a team.

What is mourinho on blaming vertonghen, they both went down and they were both battling the whole game, don’t suppose he noticed torres claw vertonghens face though. he is such a whiner and is becoming a real bore now. Mourinho has now become the type of person only his mother could like.

  2. Eric says:

We lack a quality back up striker.Defoe is good but there are better strikers out there.Half of his goals have come in cup games. He’s invisible against top teams n last season scored on goal in second half of the season. If we had a quality back up it would have help today.M not making him a scapegoat he can look at his stats n realise that along with a lb a striker is needed in Jan

  3. Jide says:

I disagree with Tom. What can Dafoe have done in the time he came on? He was on target on both occasion he had a change. It is Soldado we should worry about I think. Yes, he made the goal today, but he has not scored in open play. Do anyone think its time to reverse the role and start with Dafoe and bring on Soldado later?

I am more married about our left back position. We should have kept Ekoto until we have got a good left back. Neither Rose or Naughton does it for me.

A draw was a fair result. Mourinho’s moan is not surprising, he sees only what he wants to see. He didn’t see Torres clawing Vertongen nor him pushing out at him before he was sent off. He’s a joke now and the comments are all boring now.

Looking forward to the game against the Hammers next. COYS!

Not worried about soldado it is the most difficult position and team work is still needed. he set up goal and almost picked out Paulinho for 2nd, only ivavovich last gasp stopped it. he’s twenty goals plus no doubts. Just seen the latest goner score epecting them on this site soon, boring.

    • eric says:

Hey jide my observations aren’t based on this match itself.U have to see his performances in previous seasons specially against top teams. If we can afford someone better then why not? I know its hard for him to change anything in 15 mins but I still feel if he can’t play as the 3rd striker with cup games n the occasional league games then we should look out for a striker and a lb.Nothing personal, just feel someone out there is better and affordable.

      • Tony says:

I’m not worried about Soldado he is quality and he will click soon, think the team might have to get forward a little quicker and deliver earlier into the box for him. AVB will be on it. If JD is going to be the second striker he has to make the few chances he gets count, his first effort today was weak, it was a great chance and he should have put his laces through it, as it turned out it was easily smothered. We need a real pest in the box like a tevez or aguero to mix it up or dare I say a suarez.

        • eric says:

we need someone physical who’s a good header.Dzeko isn’t getting game time at city but always scores those important away goals, would love him in jan cause I don’t see villa letting benteke go in jan

      • Tony says:

Just seen the Swansea result ,think we might have a certain gooner on site tonight, must prepare, haha

  4. Jide says:

Sorry Tom. I was disagreeing with Eric!

  5. Tony says:

Haha been expecting you, well done again good result. We bossed chelsea 1st half and should have had it won by halftime, still pulling away from manchester clubs, happy days. Soldado made another and almost put another on a plate for paulinho so no probs . he already has four so he will easily get his 20. don’t know if you watched spurs but by now you must realise just how good dembele is, awesome.

    • Caleb says:

Dembele was class today, on another level. Danny rose needs to get back to fitness quick because I don’t think naughton can cut it. Soldado will get 20 goals at least but my only question is how many will be in the prem, it’s all okay if he scores 20 in the prem but he can’t rely on a few braces in the Europa league to get him up to that coveted ’20’ mark

      • Tony says:

Agree lb position is still the problem, if Kaboul had been fit pretty sure he would have moved vertonghen across. wouldn’t worry too much about soldado he is a cut above as a striker and AVB will work it out just like he did the defence and late goals, same players coached to do the job.

    • Tony says:

you said the same of dembele and have now seen the error of your ways, it will be the same of Paulinho who will be up for league player of the season. quality. Bale made a huge mistake, in my opinion , madrid are a clubof rich expensive players but are not a “TEAM”. another blank season for them as the unrest will gather momentum and the players will blame the bale/ozil situation, poor performers will always look for a scapegoat and it will be bale unless he is spectacular and soon.

  6. eric says:

Next month we play hull n west ham at home n villa away.Realistically all winnable games.Villa defeated city but so did cardiff n we still did win. These games will define our season not the big games.City thrashed united but won the season last minute.

    • Tony says:

That’s why arsenal are where they are beating all the teams outside the top 6. they also were fortunate to face spurs at home so early in spurs transition and even then only just won it. they face all the big teams from Nov onwards and then will be the real test for their squad, until then they are doing what we must do and beat the teams they should . United have some severe problems i think, been saying it for weeks now and now the penny has dropped.

      • Tony says:

It won’t last of that I am sure, never yet been convincing. November and December will be the turning point for you.

        • Tony says:

Absolutely nothing about this season so far suggests that Tottenham will do worse than they have over the last 5 seasons with 3 5th positions and 2 4th positions, performance, strength, quality and depth suggest the best season ever and that is what it will be. A home game against a Spurs team just put together apart Arsenal have played teams in 13th,14th,18th and last place in the league, villa are 9th and beat you. Talk it big when you have played the teams you believe will finish in the top 5.You must have heard that saying “don’t count your chickens”

  7. Eric says:

Kaboul in last year of his contract n hasn’t been offered a new one yet.We made n official bid for an Argentine seria a player meaning kaboul’s fitness is an issue. We can’t play with just 3 fit defenders a season so its time up for him I guess.

    • Tony says:

It must be down to his fitness his quality is such that you would not allow the possibility of losing him and especially for free. Sad really he is one of our own.

    • Tony says:

Pathetic——- very articulate and your argument has been wonderfully created and so full of good points. It will be so enjoyable when this tottenham team finally click into overdrive and go sailing past you lot.

    • steve says:

let’s see who has the upperhand by January.one defeat all season just like you.

  8. Jide says:

Did Gunner tick Likes on himself?! Billy no mates! Haha!

  9. Tony says:

I repeat we have finished 1 point behind you for last 2 seasons and have lost 1 game like although ours was away to a top 4 club not home to lowly team.say what you like now when we finish the season ahead of you it will be all the sweeter.

  10. Tony says:

agree city will come good but thats about all i agree with. It’s probably as well for you we are not nearer and able to place a bet it will save you losing your money.
