Tottenham’s magnificent 7:6th up Erik Lamela.(video)

Posted on September 08, 2013 by Tony

Tottenham’s new number eleven and a player we hope will banish the blues surrounding the loss of his predecessor Gareth Bale. Erik Lamela became Tottenham’s third record buy of the summer as his fee will apparently rise to £30m with add-ons of something like £5m over time. This is the player who comes with extremely high expectations, the player that might one day become Tottenham’s next exceptional star.

Erik Lamela as well as Tottenham’s final signing of the summer Eriksen are young enough not to take up a spot in the official 25 man squad named by the club, with both still falling within the U21 category. This Argentinian already has three full international caps for his country, no mean feat for one so young winning a place in the team of one of the worlds football super powers. He joined Roma two years ago for a fee that amounted to about 18m euros with all the extra add-ons and with a sell on clause, now activated of course, obviously Lamela is one of Franco Baldini’s projects, firstly while with Roma and now Tottenham.

Erik Lamela scored goals last season at a rate of one every other game and finished the season 5th top scorer in Italy, he comes to Tottenham with a first class pedigree and with the ringing endorsement of Baldini who has staked his reputation on the player by virtue of the fee paid, AVB has spoken of the quality he possesses and if that is not enough just read some of the words of one of Tottenham’s original Argentine heroes Ossie Ardilles,

‘He is never predictable in his play; he’s much more subtle than that. I would sum him up as very skilful at pace. In Argentina he was seen as a traditional number 10. And only the very special players achieve that acclaim. He can play in that crucial creative area behind the main striker; as an attacking midfielder or more to the left which he has done with success.

‘All in all he is very talented,’ he concluded. ‘It’s great to have him here and I’m excited about the immediate future at Tottenham.’

He’s a different type of player; to my mind a real Spurs player,’

Ringing endorsements from football people and a World cup winner.

Of course nothing is certain and any number of things could go wrong, but there are very high hopes for this particular player, hence the hefty investment, with plenty of years ahead of him including many years still to improve as a player. The video below gives some idea of his quality and what he immediately brings to the team:-

Left foot, right foot , headers, pace, power, finesse and quick feet he does seem to be the real deal although I’m not sure about the gloves.

Welcome to the Lane Erik Lamela.

30 mill bit too much ozil for an extra 12 mill looks cheap best number 10 in the world according to mourinho

    • Tony says:

when you consider madrid were touting him to united and psg for £30m a month ago, £43 looks about £13m too much don’t you think. mourinho also said chelsea were the best team against bayern!!!!! and won nothing last season with the so called best players in every position, including ozil.strange that mourinho didn’t try to buy him when he knows him so well.

  2. yidarmy says:

he looks quality and if ossie says he is then it is so.will need a bit of time to settle and get up to speed, the pace and 90 mins of constant pressure seems to catch players unawares.

  3. steve says:

AVB will be spoilt for choice this year with all the talk of best teams and new players people forget that Adebayor and Lennon are still in the squad and are still quality and bring something to the party. Lamela will have time to settle and grow into the team and he certainly looks the business.

  4. tom says:

It just seems that every player AVB brings in has pace and are physically well equipped for the premiership, they nearly all seem to be 2 footed and able to play in any number of positions with soldado the only real specialist.
Apart from rotating the team for different matches it seems that the players will rotate positions during games to give the opposition even more to think about.

  5. 5th again says:

I doubt they offered ozil for 30 million where u get ur facts from even so he is worth every penny chelsea didn go for him because the have too many players for that position and were concentrating on getting rooney can see liverpool overtaken u lot can buy so many players and expect them to gel straight away buy the time the start working together ye will b too far behind. 6 th place for ye

    • Tony says:

gotta say i now fancy liverpool to do well so arsenal had better pull their socks up or they will be fighting for 6th place this season.I have no fears for spurs because i believe that third place is worst case scenario. Ozil offer was well documented especially in spanish papers. chelsea and united still had time then but didn’t take it obviously believing even £30m was too much.
