Tottenham’s “S” men looking good.

Posted on August 19, 2013 by Tony

During the friendly against Espanyol a little over a week ago there looked to be a nice rapport building between Roberto Soldado and Gylfi Sigurdsson, that seems to have developed still further as the pair seem to be linking very well on the field of play. During yesterdays first game of the season against Palace they created good chances for each other and also seem to be constantly on the same wavelength.

Soldado is already off the mark with a clinical penalty, even had the keeper guessed the right way the ball ahd been placed with such precision and power that he would have had very little chance of dealing with it, more than that Soldado was a constant threat and perpetual motion, he also created a wonderfull opening for Sigurdsson that really should have put the result beyond doubt early in the second half.

Sigurdsson is now playing in his favoured position centrally, responsible for making things happen and supporting his striker and but for a fine save by the Palace keeper and that miss his performance would have been clearly far better than the result suggests.

Walker and Lennon down the right have built up a decent partnership having been regulars on that flank for a while now, both got into some great positions offensively helped by their understanding of each others strengths but there is more to their game as both also work effectively together defensively.

On the other flank Rose and Chadli offer similar qualities of pace and willingness to get forward, given a few more weeks working together there is every chance that another fantastic partnership will be forged.

Vertonghen and Dawson were effective and pretty much untroubled in their defensive partnership and once Kaboul is up to speed he will slot right back in and improve any pairing AVB deems suitable for any given situation.

The final pairing in this 4 2 3 1 formation was Dembele and Paulinho, both strong and getting used to their role together, yesterday both played within themselves probably to help ease Paulinho into the rigours and pace of Premiership football, they were strong and comfortable. With Sandro and Capoue also set to offer their own particular qualities in central midfield in a variety of formations and with Holtby and Carroll still to choose from it is looking good and with Gareth Bale still at the club the possibilities are enormous.
