Tottenham’s summer purchases not looking so bad afterall.

The media and the football pundits have all been only too happy to knock Tottenham over what they have classed as poor purchases over the summer with the enormous cash windfall from the sale of Gareth Bale, who incidentally didn’t look anything like the superstar he was at Tottenham during Real Madrid’s home defeat to Barcelona, when it seems that the expensive purchases at Arsenal, Liverpool, United and Chelsea need some time to settle the fact that Tottenham’s seven have not yet torn up any trees it seems it is in order to question Baldini and Tottenham over the purchases and the quality of the individuals themselves.

Christian Eriksen has proven himself to be the pick of the bunch so far with eight goals and six assists to his name already, compare that to the other similar newcomer to the league in the summer Ozil who has six goals and nine assists. Eriksen at only a quarter of the price and a few years younger is actually proving to be a great acquisition and was accepted by the tottenham fans as exactly their type of player in the first few minutes he appeared in the team.

Vlad Chiriches though currently injured was beginning to secure a regular place in the team with a couple of MOTM performances and that in particular at Old Trafford standing out. Has already opened his goalscoring account for the club and is the type of adventurous defender that Tottenham fans like to see provided he does the main job of defending first. another youngster with years ahead of him and time to improve he has already been a success for Tottenham.

Roberto Soldado was the record signing and has not yet lived up to his billing with goals. Probably the most difficult situation to thrive in a goalscorer relies upon the balance of the team and their capabilities to make the chances for him. so far it has not happened but he is still working for the team and is actually creating more than most when given his chance. It is fair to say that Sherwood prefers another and so the chances a few and far between when he probably now just needs a run in the side having begun to settle.

Nacer Chadli has been one of the main targets of derision and yet his last three games has seen him shine with goals, creation and workrate. He has suffered with injury at times just as he has made it back into the team but with luck he has finally found his feet. The best goalscoring record of all our midfielders per game ratio with close to one in three.

Paulinho has been guilty of blowing a little hot and cold but in the opinion of most has settled reasonably well and will only get better if given the time. Another who has suffered from injuries and enormous amounts of travelling time with Tottenham in europe and the Brazil team with the World Cup coming up, he also played in the Confederations Cup over the summer before joining so has had little break.

Etienne Capoue started well before a longish injury cut his chances short, was then asked to perform in defence by both coaches before suffering from the “I don’t like defensive midfielders” side of Sherwood. Out injured again after forcing his way back and generally very unlucky as he did show quality.

Erik Lamela the one real disappointment so far probably because so much is expected of him, he has been spoken of as our next superstar and every Tottenham supporter sees just what he has to offer if he can settle into the Premiership and London. Continuous injuries since AVB left has seen him disappear but he is back training and will hopefully get the chance to show a little of what he can do and practice a little English before the season is over. Potential but still unknown how much he might deliver.

It’s not so bad really as most imports take time to settle let alone purchases with Premier League experience, take a look at Suarez and Giroud, Henderson and many other expensive acquisitions and see how they fared in their first season, not all, in fact very few hit the ground running.
