Transfer window likely to be disappointing for Tottenham.

Posted on December 29, 2013 by Guest Writer

In only a matter of hours the transfer window will reopen and Tottenham will be linked with numerous players across the globe, with such a dearth of goals from our strikers so far Leandro Damiao, Rossi and others will be linked to us as possible targets while other underachieving forwards surplus to requirements at Milan and Juventus will be considered suitable to offer in a swap for our future potential star Erik Lamela.

Everything does seem to point to the sale of Jermaine Defoe although he might not leave us until nearer the start of the MLS season and might incorporate a loan for a short period, either that or a switch back to West Ham. If JD does leave will Tottenham delve into the market or might Tim Sherwood actually give Harry Kane his chance when fit as an alternative to Adebayor and Soldado?

Surprisingly it is defensively where Franco Baldini will surely be concentrating his efforts, AVB and Tottenham suffered terribly in the long absence of Danny Rose, Kyle Naughton was found out on the left and it seems now that Zeki Fryers might not be the answer having been frequently overlooked as cover. a new leftback or possibly the return to the fold of Assou-Ekotto is surely a must, no more can we lose the services of Jan Vertonghen centrally. It now seems likely that Younes Kaboul will never regain the fitness levels needed to rely upon over a tough season, he is in the last six months of his contract and obviously it has been allowed to run down because of fitness issues as his ability is not in question, so another centre back to complete the compliment of four is needed.

Needless to say Tottenham currently possess more than enough midfielders and some of them might look to find game time elsewhere in order to try to make an impression before the World Cup, loans or sales are likely to occur in January particularly if we are eliminated from the FA Cup.

Where once there was Tottenham stability and the hope of one or two significant and important purchases in this transfer window to see through the aims of the club, now most  just see consolidation and firefighting. Who actually believes that the current coaching staff will continue beyond the end of this season? and if they are temporary then why purchase or decimate a squad that could be just what the new man considers suitable for his vision and ideas.

The way this season is going  there is little likelihood of good news in the next month, as usual there will be untold Tottenham transfer rumours, untold disappointments and if Daniel Levy has anything to do with it a profit on dealings.

Today is the last home game of what has been a rather traumatic year for Spurs fans, wouldn’t it be nice to sign off with a win and leave us with some hope for the coming year.

Levy will continue to disappoint like he has in the past.He did this summer what he should have over the past 3 Windows and yet he only did it cause bale was sold

    • Tony says:

Knee jerk reaction and the wrong one in my view. I should be letting it go by now but I am watching Newcastle v Arsenal and I see less excitement, efforts on or off target and attacking play than anything we saw under AVB and Chelsea are much the same. Until the media and backstabbing started and talk of using Adebayor or 2 up front started I was happy to dominate and draw or win tight games, once AVB became more attacking to appease the masses it started to go wrong. Until Levy stands by his decisions and vocally backs his man we are going from one problem to another. Pardew was in trouble until they played us and now look at them, Levy would have dropped the axe on him.
