Transfer window opens, let the fun begin.

Posted on July 01, 2013 by Eddie S

At last it is the official opening of the transfer window, the Confederations Cup is over and players will be expected to return to their respective clubs for pre-season within the next 10 days or so. There have already been numerous announcements of completed deals especially those involving vast amounts of money and mostly to Monaco, but now it begins in earnest and for once it would be great to complete a few big deals quickly.

Tottenham have been making waves in the market as usual, the latest being a deal for two 17 year old Croatians from the very club Tottenham bought Luka Modric, Dinamo Zagreb. The story has emanated from Croatia and has yet to be confirmed by Tottenham but it does seem to be as a result of work by the new appointment Baldini. A central defender and attacking midfielder of immense potential, it has been reported that they come with a combined price tag of £17m  and will not join the club until the transfer window after their 18th birthday.

With the Confederations Cup coming to an end it is hoped that a couple of deals will now be finalised, based on last nights showing by Brazil and the immense contribution of Paulinho, amongst others, it is hoped that his signing will be completed in double quick time as he will make an immense difference to the squad and team. Paulinho has been so impressive that whilst he has spoken of his desire to join Tottenham there remains the nagging worry that Real Madrid or Chelsea might still step in with a ridiculous offer. The sooner his signature is on that contract the happier I shall feel.

Another couple of possible recruits could be David Villa and Soldado, both in the Spanish squad, Villa replaced Torres for the final 30 minutes but presumably Soldado was not used due to an ongoing injury.

Once a couple of deals have been finalised no doubt there will have to be a few players departing, it appears that Tom Huddlestone is likely to uproot to Sunderland but he has no shortage of admirers with Fulham and a couple of others also interested. Most Tottenham supporters will be sad to see The Hud leave and still dream of what might have been had he been able to really get fit, his passing range is second to none and the hope was that he would become like a second Hoddle.

It is interesting that Higuain still retaining an interest in joining Tottenham was mentioned on this site a few days back, now it seems that his transfer to Arsenal might not be so cut and dried as they had thought, Tottenham are again being mentioned as a possible destination for him and following the comments by Tottenham’s very own Ossie Ardilles there might well still be a shock on the cards. Surely though Higuain will still choose Arsenal and participation in the Champions League because if he doesn’t and chooses the other side of North London what sort of message will that send out?

Everything points to a short sharp transfer window for Tottenham and the major deals being completed quickly and effectively, there might be a “Levy Bonus” at the end of the window with a surprise addition in the VDV mould. This is Tottenham so it could never be as straightforward as that, expect some disappointment over at least one of the targets but rest assured Gareth Bale will be going nowhere.
