What chance Chadli to top four chasing Everton?

Posted on January 26, 2014 by Eddie S

When it seemed that Nacer Chadli might be on his way out of Tottenham a week or two ago soon after a couple of interviews attributed to his agent seemed to imply he wished to go, Chadli himself subsequently backtracked and declared his happiness at being a Tottenham player and insisted that he was willing to fight for a place in the team having been assured that he remained an important member of the squad. Since then he has started both recent fixtures and though never outstanding he does a job and is a hardworking member of the team, more importantly there is a genuine belief that there is still lots more to come from a talented player.

In the past few days and well before the unfortunate injury to the Everton player Oviedo there have been more and more rumours of interest from Roberto Martinez in the Tottenham player, such interest is always understandable in such a talented adaptable player who has already played on both wings and as a second striker or playmaker in this Tottenham team, though never outstanding he has always done a decent job so warranting interest from other teams.

As the media search in vain for something worthwhile to write about during what is generally a busy time for football only United and Chelsea have actually done anything significant, Everton firstly lost Ross Barkley for a significant period due to injury and now that they have lost Oviedo for the remainder of the season a player like Chadli would seem an ideal addition for them right now, but the question is would Tottenham actually authorize any sale to Everton as they are one of at least four clubs challenging for that elusive top four position.

Tottenham currently have the edge over them by a single point but Everton have the far superior goal difference and so it is fair to say that as of this moment in time one or the other, neither or preferably both might finish in the top four this season and for that reason this is yet another non event no matter what fee Everton might offer Tottenham.

Though Daniel Levy has made some mistakes over the years strengthening competitors is now a thing of the past, if he can turn away £40m for Modric he can easily dismiss a meagre £5m for Chadli and for that reason Everton will be looking elsewhere for replacements.
