What team changes to expect for Fulham.

Posted on December 03, 2013 by Tony

AVB managed to stop the rot on Sunday with a good performance against Manchester United and whilst both clubs will say that they should have taken all three points most observers will know that Tottenham were the unfortunate party. Tomorrow brings another important fixture, more so in some respects, having steadied the ship and begun to fight back against the media it is time to win games and win back the minds of the public, that starts at Fulham.

Having just sacked their coach Martin Jol and started the season so poorly Fulham will be fired up for this one, the new man has already been appointed, no surprises there as he joined only a week or so ago as Jol’s assistant, and the players will be keen to show him what they can do. Scott Parker, Dimitar Berbatov and Adel Taarabt all had better days when they played for Tottenham and will be out to make a point, a dangerous scenario.

After a strong performance how AVB goes about this game will be interesting, midweek fixtures have tended to mean several changes up until this point, an opportunity to rest, rotate and involve all of the squad but this is for three points in the competition that matters most. Many supporters will be saying same again other than perhaps some more adventurous alternative than Chadli on the left, there will be calls for Jermain Defoe to start and try to exploit what is a sluggish back line with his pace. We know that Sandro for instance has to be carefully managed in terms of his recovery from injury and the medical staff might be advising against two games in four days and for that reason this is probably a perfect opportunity to bring in Etienne Capoue  an even bigger beast of a player.

Soldado, Defoe or even Adebayor if fit are the choices up front , only one though as this is no time for experimentation with 4 4 2 and again AVb just has to stick with Soldado in an attempt to see him through this barren patch, he is the most prolific and natural of the three as his past record shows and he rarely strays offside, a part of Defoe’s game that drives most supporters mad.

The experiment with Kyle Naughton covering for Danny Rose at left back seems now to have been abandoned as that slowed attacks down the left and rarely resulted in decent service into the box, how we need Rose back, but until he is it will have to remain the job for Jan Vertonghen in the important fixtures especially now that Younes Kaboul seems to have recovered from injury and Vlad Chiriches has settled in so well.

I certainly don’t foresee many changes other than Capoue, Townsend or Sigurdsson starting but would hope to see Lamela sat on the bench as he is a real game changer just in case we need one.
