What Tottenham team will show up tonight?

Posted on February 27, 2014 by Random Spurs Supporter

With little else to play for unless Liverpool manage to do what we have done so successfully for the past two seasons, blow up with the finishing line in sight, this particular  european competition presents Tottenham with probably their last chance of salvation and might just start the ball rolling on, at the very least, a decent challenge in the league. Tottenham’s support is probably as low as it has been for many a year, expectancy has turned into little more than a farcical chain of events as the AVB departure seems to have come back to haunt every one of us. Other than the Stoke and Newcastle fixtures most performances have been little better than functional and in just about every game the team has remained vulnerable, even Lloris had to make a few incredible saves before we got on the score sheet at Newcastle.

Last week Sherwood’s luck finally ran out and with it perhaps some of the pressure on the team, they now simply have to go for it in every game including the dreaded Thursday night European competition. Perhaps this idea of playing on a Thursday hindering the team on the weekend is simply a fallacy and an easy excuse for poor performance, of those rested none did well on Sunday.

There were so many calls for a new vibrant Tottenham team playing in their traditional flamboyant style and we have now got a team devoid of ideas.  For almost the entirety of the first dozen or so games though the team failed to score enough goals at least there were efforts on goal and on target even against current frontrunners Arsenal and Chelsea yet under Sherwood the amount of goals might have increased but the excitement has gradually declined. I am not going to knock Norwich because they have certainly improved as a team and they have been unlucky on more than a few occasions but they should really have been brushed aside, they had one shot on target , Tottenham two!

Now for me with just eleven league fixtures to go it’s time for this club to take this competition seriously, sherwood has managed to do exactly what his mentor Harry Redknapp did, eleminate us from all cup competitions at the earliest opportunity to concentrate on the league  only to fail in the finishing straight. Three cup games and three defeats with just a single goal to show for our endeavours, that has got to change tonight and Sherwood must pick a team to win through.

As a supporter I feel totally let down, elimination tonight would just about be the icing on the disaster cake.
