Will Barcelona try to poach AVB to replace Vilanova?

Posted on July 19, 2013 by Guest Writer

It seems that Barcelona are set to announce that their head coach Tito Vilanova is set to step down from his job, an unexpected press announcement has been called and the consensus of opinion is that the coach has decided that he is unable to continue due to ill health. Last year he was forced away from the job and travelled to the States for cancer treatment before returning before the end of the season to continue to lead the team.

Generally Barcelona promote from within and during his absence last season assistant coaches Jordi Roura and Aureli Altimira took joint charge with some success. Whether Barcelona feel that they have sufficient experience in their ranks to continue the trend we can only hope, there are very few available coaches out there following this seasons merry go round and none that immediately spring to mind.

Barcelona are quite prepared to give the important job of head coach to young relative unknowns, Guardiola being just 37yrs of age and Vilanova 42yrs when they were given the job, the two temporary custodians are both 45 yrs old  with Jordi Roura probably favoured for the job, he was a former player spending 8 years with Barca from youth level.

Hopefully Barcelona will continue their tried and trusted coaching appointment in order to maintain consistency, we certainly do not need any upheaval at Tottenham this close to the start of the season, the thought of turning to Harry again really does fill me with dread.
